As if there weren't stupid politicians before TV

People have always chosen to associate themselves with people who share their values. People like themselves.

If there's a reason why this Kansas Congresswoman is an idiot, why so many New York City council members are idiots, why Michelle Bachmann is an idiot, that's the reason.

I think there were stupider politicians before TV, the mass media just makes it difficult to conceal (hence Sarah Palin).

The problem we have is only partly stupid politicians, its has more to do with stupid voters.

It's something I have never understood, why on earth would anyone believe that someone who is fun to have a beer with is going to be good at running anything, let alone a country?

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Bush was strange - I think he was elected on the basis of what he represented on paper. It certainly wasn't to do with his own talents and charisma - there were a lot of people behind the scenes working his strings.

I'm sure that's always been the case to some degree or other - but with Bush it was painfully obvious.

Who do you trust? Some guy who you barely understand or some guy who speaks your mind to you in a language you understand?

Touche! Seriously though, most people are not that stupid, are they?

It's not stupidity, it's human nature. We like what we know. Why do you think GWB and Obama both made such a big deal of their wood-chopping and one-on-one basketball games (respectively)? Why do you think Kerry's windsurfing backfired the way it did?

Policies are well and good but you have to be one of us. That's just how people are.

Yup - because all the focus is on whoever the President is, when it should be on the Representatives and Senate - they are the ones that truly run the country...but hey, what do I know?

There's so many of them though :jest:

We have a few older relatives who cite personality as a fundamental reason to vote or not vote for someone.

My mother in law, for example, had a hard time at the last election because she couldn't (in good conscience) support either candidate - Obama (because of Biden) and McCain because he up and dumped his first wife.

Also some other relatives who are strangely receptive to slogans - and use them regularly whenever a particular subject crops up.

A man's actions do speak to his character, do they not?

Me neither. It seems 10 years ago, it became a bad thing to be one of the top minds of your generation. I'm not saying that either Kerry or Gore fit this description, but it was none the less the way that republicans framed it. In every other aspect of life, you would want an elite member of that profession. No fvcking way am I going to have dental work done by a dentist who I would want to have a beer with.

Maybe that's why I always find it hard to find someone to vote for?

To an extent - but when you're placing importance on a person's religion, or how many people they've fvcked (especially if its same sex) than their policy platform, its a fairly certain indication that people are losing the plot.

Wow - another day another idiot.

How do these people get elected into office?

Read around this section of the site and you'll have your rhetorical answer. ;)

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.
