Here's a question for you that support the GOP - apparently (and I am only going on what I have read because I am only a recent import to the US of A) Ted Kennedy the Senator was both well liked and respected in the senate, not just by his Democratic colleagues, but by many of the GOP opposition. Are those GOP senators that liked and respected him idiots? Do they not know what they are talking about?

In the house and senate its common practice to show "compassion" when a colleague dies. They do it no matter who dies. Mainly because they are technically "co-workers".

As I said, Nancy is a former first lady. Technically a citizen, but rarely "private". She is still viewed as America's royalty, as most first Ladies are. They do try to remain non-partisan. Hillary being an exception since she was Co-president.
