Is it possible to export timeline data in a spreadsheet format—be it Excel (XLS), comma-delimited text (CSV), or otherwise? Or are we limited to copy-and-paste from the webpage display?

Improved USCIS Form G-325A (Biographic Information)

Form field input font changed to allow entry of dates in the specified format and to provide more space for addresses and employment history. This is the 6/12/09 version of the form; the current version is 8/8/11, but previous versions are accepted per the USCIS forms page.

It was discussed a while back.. If I recall its only doable with CGI.

It doesn't look like VJ has any built-in tools to do this, but anyone with a little programming knowledge could write something that "scrapes" the timeline page and converts it to HTML, CSV, or whatever format you are interested in. It looks like it wouldn't be very hard to do since the format of the timeline page appears to be very predictable and I'm assuming doesn't change often.
