Slingbox is good.....

I got sent a programme the other day, which you just install onto your pc and if you have vlc set up as your video player, you can pick any UK TV channel to watch live.

I'll dig it out - seems to work with most of the channels almost all the time. I watched the England game the other day on ITV.

EDIT: Here you go......the email I got in the first instance

Thought you might like this, this bod has written a programme that allows you to watch 19 UK channels online, no problem

http://www.myp2pforum.eu/live-tv/41045-british-tv.html

You need to have VLC as your default player

Then download the zip file from the myP2P link, extract the .exe file and copy it to your VLC programme file (I think it just needs to be on the same drive, but I stuck it there anyhow, then copied a direct link to desktop)

Open, type in the Channel number from the menu, hit enter and voila.

wow ...thank you so much for this, with little pc knowledge i didnt think i was going to be able to get it to work but got it going fine. It has my fav and most missed music channel scuzz on it too...Im so happy :)))) LOL...ive missed it so much over the past 2 years. You have made my day.

Haha, no worries :D

It is really easy, isn't it? Lots of channels to choose from too. Scuzz as you say - I usually have the music channels on when working away on the laptop.

Enjoy!

Does anybody know the legal status of these various sites and programs that allow access to live UK TV from overseas?

As per this page on the BBC web site you need a UK TV licence to view live programs on the internet plus there are the copyright issues which prevent the viewing of programs on the BBC iplayer.

With the US having particularly strict copyright laws what are the risks of viewing these programs in the US?

I wondered about this also...but the research I have done into FilmOn.com seems to suggest they are a legit company, from what I gather the company pays for a 'license to broadcast'.

Can not be legit.

But the best way is a VPN so it looks like you are in the UK.

by Darren Davidson, Brand Republic 08-Apr-08, 12:10

LONDON - Channel 4's in-house digital advertising sales agency 4DS has been appointed to handle third party online advertising for FilmOn.com, the video-streaming website where visitors can legally download films.

Under the terms of the deal, 4DS will manage third party online advertising for the website, including onsite media and sponsorship opportunities.

The newly launched website, which went live in January, has already reported 8m unique users and more than 100m page impressions in the first month alone.

The website, which is part of the independent film and production company 111Pix Group, was founded by Alki David, a billionaire businessman. David has appeared in a string of films and TV shows, including BBC One hit 'Spooks' and more recently gangster movie 'The Bank Job'.

Matt Gower, director of 4DS, said: "FilmOn is the world's largest aggregator of independent film and television content.

"It is new, exciting and versatile for the consumer and already achieves fantastic traffic levels."

Has anyone used PC-Streaming.com to get UK tv? I looked it up and thought it seemed a bit pricey but am seriously considering it as i've got Strictly withdrawals!

So can anyone tell me this about FilmOn. Do they ever 'cut out' certain programming that they can't obtain rebroadcast rights to? I'm getting the message that the free time is over but as rebeccajo said, $10/month for BBC, ITV and C4 (etc) is an absolute bargain. BUT... It's a non-starter if it doesn't show the footie and the F1. Has anyone successfully watched sport on this service?

We pay DishNetwork for a higher value package specifically so I can have SpeedTV for the F1 and a few other channels for the tennis, some [real] football, etc... I missed watching proper sports terribly when I first moved here.

the subscription applies only to bbc 2, not to the other channels. bbc 1, itv1, itv2, ch4 ch 5, always free. and more 4, film four. and u can always work around the bbc 2 thingy. try it.

I think it must vary - I got the 'subscription expired' message on Channel 4 after about 10 minutes of watching it. After that, I was able to watch some other channels (including BBC2) for quite some time without that message appearing again... Maybe it's just 'random' interruption, kinda like a nag screen, in which case I'll just ignore it.

As for the sport, I guess I'll test it out during the Singapore GP this weekend... Speed's coverage isn't that bad and credit to the Yorkshire bloke who makes a sterling effort but the BBC's sport coverage in general has always been top notch.

Looking forward to watching Footie Focus too... :D

Neither have I except just that once. I also got a message that the channel was scrambled at one point. In both cases, it worked just fine when I switched channels and then back again. Fantastic service so far
