All this gnashing or teeth, wringing of hands and personal attacks over who says what about a dead guy is ridiculous. If you adored Teddy, think he was a paragon of virtue, then start your own "I loved Ted and think he was a paragon of virtue" thread.

This ain't that, and rightly so.

I didn't like Ted Kennedy, haven't liked him for decades, so there's not one drop of hypocrisy in me to declare that after his death, I STILL don't like him.

If you liked his politics, you are probably going to like him. I didn't like his politics, but I don't like a lot of people's politics, and still like them just fine. I just didn't like Ted, period. Behind the scenes, he spent a lot of his life behaving as he did at Chappaquiddick, like a spoiled, decadent rich boy who didn't care much for anyone who didn't obtain his privileged status.

Some of you may not know that he was in the limelight for several unsavory events - cheating and expulsion from Harvard College, public drunkeness, sexual depravities, domestic violence with his first wife, (Joan, also an alcoholic) a famous rape accusation against a nephew that he tried to cover up, a rejection of green energy too close to home, where it would ruin his full enjoyment of his own massive properties. He was a legend on Capitol Hill for more than just the legislation he supported. Much of what he was also known for wasn't good, was only whispered because the press protected him, although, at one point, his bad behavior threatened his Senate seat. It was not until then that he began to tone it down and become the Lion of the Senate that those of you who object to this thread remember.

So, pardon me if I started a thread that gives voice to those of us who don't care to share in the adulation the fawning liberal media will heap upon us for the next several days. One of the freedoms I cherish greatly is the ability to speak freely here, even if what I say is unpopular, just as I do in real life. I hope you do the same.

I watched President Obama's speech this morning, and it certainly sounded to me like those references of "across-the-aisle agreements" and "always found common ground with Republicans" were messages to the GOP.
