I grew up with close friends who were mostly, Protestant and Republican. My parents were both Democrat. My friends used to call me a heathen and say that Republicans want to protect our country militarily. I was in 4th grade when Jimmy Carter got elected to office and I tried to understand why on earth why.

You cared about politics in the 4th grade? What were you, some kind of freak?

It was probably my freshman and sophomore years while attending a Catholic High School that shaped my political ideology...particularly from my Religion class. Read about some long haired hippie teaching radical concepts about caring for the poor and sick, and turning the other cheek.

Yeah, those librul teachers indoctrinated me with things like current events and social studies. It's only now that I realize those were code words for communist manifestos.

In the 4th grade I had just moved to India after a few years of public schooling in California and North Carolina. My first day in class the teacher introduces me as having moved from America and letting all the kids know I don't speak Hindi (I did not at the time). My first day in class was this ####### going on and on about how much America sucks and how Vietnam beat America's aѕѕ. I had never heard of Vietnam. I didn't know what the fuсk he was talking about.

I wonder if Senator Kennedy's passing will be used as a catalyst to push the Health "reform" Bill?

I watched President Obama's speech this morning, and it certainly sounded to me like those references of "across-the-aisle agreements" and "always found common ground with Republicans" were messages to the GOP.

Obama doesn't need the GOP for his agenda. He just wants to share the blame when it all falls apart some more.

Exactly, so he does need the GOP, especially if he's thinking at all about the '12 election.

Oh no! People in their 50s laid off from jobs they've held for decades and now temping at Adecco with no benefits might actually be able to afford health insurance for their families! The horror!

The bill doesn't change a damn thing about the costs of healthcare, AJ. It just further enables the Federal government to print up paper to pay for it, which will just make everything else that much more expensive.

There are actual (and simple) things that can be done to bring the costs of healthcare into market equilibrium, but nobody wants to entertain them. They're much too content blasting Big insurance, corporate health, and Big Pharm.

The Blue Dogs are also thinking about their next election. I'm curious to see what kind of arm twisting will be employed to try to get them on board after they get an earful in their districts.

See, I am actually kinda torn about those so called "Blue dogs".

This minority of Dim-o-crats is both protecting the country from obscene legislation (which is good) ... and their party from their natural, self destruction.. (which is not so good.)
