Hi Everyone, my fiancee has a tourist visa and is going to visit me in the US in two weeks. When she comes thru the customs for entry what should she tell the officer? Should she just say that she is visiting a friend? Or should she say that she is visiting her fiancee while waiting for a fiancee visa and going back home in 2 weeks. Should I send her a copy of the application and the receipt that the USCIS sent me? Please help us I dont want them to turn her back.

A tourist visa from Ecuador?! Amazing. How badly was she insulted in Guayaquil or Quito when she applied for it?

To your question: Do NOT (do not! do not!) say a word about "fiance" or "fiance visa"! Say truthfully, "visiting friends (plural) and seeing some sights," and leave it at that. It is truthful without raising warning flags. She should absolutely carry firm evidence of her return ticket with her to show the officer, and it wouldn't hurt to have other evidence, such as a signed letter from her employer that she is expected back at work on a specific date. You can wait until she arrives to give her a copy of anything relating to USCIS, and do not let any governmental official see anything of the sort beforehand.

You have the sympathies of everyone here that you will have to suffer the Guayaquil consulate regarding the fiancee visa. You are automatically in deep trouble before you begin. If you have not read the "embassy review" for Guayaquil, or the thread in the U.S. Consulate forum entitled "US Consulate in Guayaquil, Ecuador," please read them and heed the perils. Ignore any positive reviews, because they are anomalies. During her upcoming visit, collect all of the evidence of your relationship that you can -- dozens (at least that many) of photos of yourselves together in different venues and clothing, receipts with BOTH of your names on them, etc. If you did not front-load your I-129F petition with evidence of your relationship, pray that you get an RFE for something, because then you can send the "kitchen sink" of evidence along with whatever USCIS requires. Do not count on evidence being accepted when she shows up for the eventual visa interview! Also, if you do not attend the visa interview, her visa will be refused. You may know this already, but it needs to be re-emphasized.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Also, it is crucial during her visit that you take pictures of the two of you together with as many of your family members and close friends (and, ideally, active or ex-military friends/relatives/contacts of yours, ministers/pastors, and other respectable people) as possible. These people may need to write testimonial letters that affirm their knowledge of your relationship. Please do not skip or underestimate the importance of this step -- it should be a priority action throughout her visit.
