Hi all,

We submitted, in person, the I-130 petition and all the required documents to the US consulate in Calgary. What will expect next to be sent from the U.S. embassy in Montreal?

Thanks

Packet 3, contains the DS 230 form, a checklist of documents you need for your interview and information on getting police certificate, medical, armed forces declaration. After this, then you get packet 4, which is the interview date.

Thanks.. My wife has not filed taxes for the last 3 years as she was living in Egypt. How can she file taxes?

Did she work during that time? If so, she can file back taxes with the IRS.

If she did not work, then she'll need to submit a letter with the I-864 explaining that she was not required to file taxes as she had no paid employment.

You will receive a notice of approval for your I-130 first. In about 2 weeks, that's how long mine took - this is packet 3.

Once you let them know that you are ready to rumble with all your documents, you wait for an interview and receive the interview letter, this is packet 4.

If she work in Egypt and paid taxes in Egypt; she can -should- file her late taxes including the foreign income exclusion. The IRS is relatively nice with folks who live abroad and file late; we had to do the same thing.
