Can I at least get a Mod to change the title to:"The Scottish Justice System Sucks", or something similar?

Thread%20Hijacked.JPG

Is it my fault that the Scottish minister of justice is infinitely more interesting than Obama?

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

You seriously haven't realized yet, that when Obama is criticized, either the topic is changed or they attack the poster?

You have 3 brain cells fighting over the same thought. Save them for something that matters neophyte.

I guess that leaves you out of things that matter.

My 3 brilliant brain-cells function just fine thank you very much. The truth seems to enrage you people. Just stick to the topic.

Lol K ON TOPIC - Yes I think Obama needs to pull back and refocus. He needs to remember what he said during debates with McCain and actually take Leiberman's advice about holding off with healthcare as the democrats want it. Instead they should focus on a system that curbs costs, regulates tort law, and get that bloody 10% increase in costs down to 0% for this year.

As Obama said in the debates, big ticket items may need to wait until the US reaches financial stability. Once that has been attained then a far reaching plan should be initiated. We're currently on course for financial meltdown if the National Debt reaches 20 trillion in ten years. Thats going to be like 170% of GDP.

You're callow analysis and commentary seem to indicate the contrary.

The Scottish Justice minister is supposed to make sure that the law is applied fairly and equitably; I'd like to know how many Scottish mass murderers have been released so soon for a merciful reasons ( terminal illness) per Scottish law.

*going to take a look*

edit-releasing this murderer -whilst legal-is an affront to all those who lost their lives and their families.

I found an answer on NPR of all places....

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.p...oryId=112177895

in the last 10 years since the Scottish parliament has being devolved there have been 31 applications for release on compassionate grounds, 24 of them have been freed and the seven that weren't freed, it was because the Scottish prison system didn't think that there was medical evidence that they had terminal illnesses.

Take a large, almost round, rotating sphere about 8000 miles in diameter, surround it with a murky, viscous atmosphere of gases mixed with water vapor, tilt its axis so it wobbles back and forth with respect to a source of heat and light, freeze it at both ends and roast it in the middle, cover most of its surface with liquid that constantly feeds vapor into the atmosphere as the sphere tosses billions of gallons up and down to the rhythmic pulling of a captive satellite and the sun. Then try to predict the conditions of that atmosphere over a small area within a 5 mile radius for a period of one to five days in advance!

If mercy is only granted when the criminal is guilty of minor crimes mercy is worth very little. The challenge is to show mercy in the face of great wrong doing. That is the example that sets the compassionate and civilized community apart from the brutal, inhuman one. I might not be a christian, but I absolutely believe in the sentiment behind compassion and the message it is meant to convey.

Nice attempt at humor there, but none the less, you fail.

Nothing! Sorry, I should have elaborated...I spent a good bit of time on the Scottish Prisons official website, Scottish law websites...etc etc...and found it on good ol' NPR.

..Better?

I guess that really IS the way they deal with terminally ill offenders-but it's still reprehensible that he got to go home and to a heros welcome.....to make it worse whatshisface from Libya is coming over here soon! ack!

In other words, all that were deemed to satisfy the medical requirements were released, regardless of the crime committed. Compassion in Scotland has nothing to do with how heinous the crime is - or indeed isn't so to have denied it would have been effectively to change the meaning of compassionate release.

I don't need your 'in other words'...blather

I asked a question, researched and posted the answer, despite the fact that my personal opinion is that it was wrong to release him.... There was nothing to concede to or for you to rephrase for me ( thanks anyway).

Look at the post before yours here.

Anyway-it's no comfort to our family friends who lost their teenager that night.
