Philippines and I-134

Hi everyone,

Does anyone here know what the Consulate in Manilla prefers as supporting evidence for your income when filing the I-134? I've read here about different consulates asking for different types of proof. Also, my fiance's interview will probably be in September or so. I work for the US government and may possibly be going into furlough status (i.e. laid off) sometime between now and her interview. Will this effect anything? I've already made above the poverty level, and I will be able to collect unemployment if I do get furloughed. I already have a letter from work verifing my employment, and being furloughed still means I could be recalled to work.

Thanks for any help.

Every country varies, with respect to supporting evidence for the I-134. You need to check with those individuals that have recently processed there successfully.

Your job situation sounds a bit dicey at this point. Can you get an extension of furlough, beyond the projected date of K-1 Visa? I am not too confident that "unemployment" benefits will cut it, with the support requirements in mind. They look for reasonable assurance of continued and steady sources of income.

As an aside, Manila is actually an Embassy. There is always an Embassy in the capital city of a country. (with the exception of one or two). Major, yet, secondary cities have Consulates. Not to be confused with Consular section, which is an internal office, often available within Embassies and Consulates. Does that make sense?

Check with some PI veterans, that is the ticket. Good luck to you both.

Ouch on the possible "furlough". In preparation for our US Manila embassy/financial support docs, I supplied my 2003, 2004 & 2005 tax transcripts which I ordered free of charge from the IRS using their 800 number. Also my most recent paycheck stubs for the last few months and a letter from my HR department on company letterhead stating my date of hire, title and current salary. Sounds like you already have that. I threw in my current & retirement savings tallies from either official statements or letterhead correspondence for good measure. I am not changing jobs or job status, but had taken a new job in the recent past and wanted to demonstrate steady and reliable employment in my career. Good luck.

The I.R.S. routinely has furloughs during off-peak times.

FYI, most likely your fiancee's interview will be more like November. Timelines of VJ members going through Manila are running about 4 months to interview from the time Manila embassy receives the file. Good Luck and I hope to see yours move faster than that. But thats the timeline I'm expecting with ours.
