The K-1 does have its follies, but it also has some positives. The biggest thing for me, was that I wouldn't have to live apart from my husband with this route. Its one thing to engage in a long distance relationship with your boyfriend or fiance, its another thing trying to work on a marriage from such a distance. Its would also a hard situation to explain to your friends and people you meet, I got enough eyebrow raises when I said I was engaged to a guy in Denver.

Its usually, not always, but usually quicker than the CR-1. Generally, K-1's are approved in 6-9 months, and there are many instances where individuals wait 10 months to a year go get their spousal visa.

With a K-1 you also have the ability to live with your fiance and get to know he/she on a different level before you commit to the marriage. Most people are confident enough in their relationship that they don't need this grace period, but it can be helpful for others.

We did the K-1 and don't regret the decision, even though the AOS part is a big pain!

I noticed you went to Montreal for your interview, what was that like. Can you describe what happens and what to expect on that interview? Or i'm sure it's posted "somewhere" on this huge forum..

The interview in Montreal is one of the easiest parts of the process, for most of us. You have to get there really early, like 6:30-7am no matter what time your letter says. It is first come first serve. They just ask you basic questions about your fiance/fiancee, relationship, etc. to confirm that you are a real couple. It's rather straighforward, but if you search "Montreal Reviews" you will get a TON of posts to read with great detail

I didn't bother getting to Montreal early. I went with my appointment time. LOL. But it's definitely the easiest part of the process..... barring the nerves factor, of course. Plus you get a mini holiday!

Yeah it is kinda hard to go through all of this and then once they move here say, "Sorry go back home!"

I thought about "living together" for the 90 days- mostly to please his parents, but neither one of us needs or wants to "live together" much longer than the time it takes to get married.

yeah I hear ya! I waited 50 but that's because I moved my moving date up due to impatience. I say this because I've read a lot of stories in the K-1 forum about people wanting to wait the 90 days to "get to know each other." You should probably know each other quit well before getting engaged no? But these are also people who have met their fiance once or twice before the day they come over on the K-1. I Couldn't do that!
