thanks you guys. I foresee a lot of learning and change coming our way. When we moved to Seattle, I always knew sooner or later I would care for bren's folks; and I will. I worry about my MIL as well, I mean, she's not 20 anymore. So I guess I will be the one driving FIL around and whatnot. I still hope it's not Parkinsons, but wth do I know. I will keep you all posted.

Hello Commie Hermano/as

(F) to Len for her FIL, also glad to hear that you are feeling better in time for the weekend.

AAm works too much, its a Capitalist streak that I haven't been able to break her of...she works every morning at Fedex (loves that job), and then she works at a local Thai Restaurant (AAm is a certified Chef in Thailand) from 5-9 in the evenings. After 2 years of my trying to convince her that she works too much, I have now come to realization that she truly is happy only when she is 'on the go', so I let her 'go'. Unlike her husband, she has a great work ethic ;)

Anyways...FINALLY, I am going to have my wife home on a Friday night! :dancing: Luckily for me, the Thai food restaurant is closed for a week for remodeling, that is the ONLY reason she won't be working this week and tonight :-)

I can tell that she's been a bit bored by only having 1 job this week...but she made up for it by washing/waxing/detailing both of our cars, adding a 4th and 5th story to our house, resodding our yard and replacing the grass with a botanical garden, and also digging a moat around our home and filling it with water and topping it off nicely with a new drawbridge. :jest:

So, perhaps I exagerrate, but it is true that she is a bundle of perpetual energy! But, tonight I'll attempt to slow her down with a BIG pizza, a BIG bottle(s) of wine, and a couple movies (she loves Steve Martin...and his funny movies).

Tomorrow, its to the Thai temple and Thai market in DC... It should be a good weekend.

Note to self: slip the Thai restaurant a cool $fiver$ and see if they'll redecorate more often!

Daz da planz!

Paz a todos!

 Mark, I think it would be more than a fiver to get them to remodel the place again. I know the feeling of being idle, however my hubby is the same as am work work work.

Why is it that the only one who can stop the crying is the one who started it in the first place?

my husband is not happy unless he is working. he was out with a back injury in january 2008, and complained the whole time that he was bored. i on the otherhand would have gladly suffered the boredom in his place :jest:

Len.... (F) Best wishes for a favorable diagnosis

Mark ... hope that you and Aam enjoy the weekend and your amazing home. I am sharing the same rainy Chicago weather mentioned by Brother Hal. It's been pissy here all week. Hopefully it clears up for the weekend. Vicky had her ESL placement test last night ... she's at level 6 (out of 8 levels), and was disappointed she didn't place higher. I think that work ethic and desire to succeed (can) run strongly in Thai culture. Then again, there's plenty of slackers there too :P

Sister V and Esposa A probably share a lot in common (work ethic - desire to improve their English) AAm did all that ESL stuff also when she first came to the USA...placement test etc...through our socialist local public ibrary and the taxpayer funded Adult Literacy program, which in typical socialist fashion, we took advantage of for FREE (to us)

AAm and I were sitting on the deck last night and it was only in the upper 60s. She said, 'This feels like January in Thailand'...so...I'm sure that Hermana V thinks that the current Chicago weather is full-force winter! Wrap her up Brother R!

Hey Mark, why wasn't I informed of sister Aam's cuisine connection?!?!?! :protest: I am always in the lookout for cool and spicy recipes, so tell her to help a sistah here.... my parents will be here next week and I always like surprising them with some new dishes :)

This year, I will make muhammara and olive hummus (from scratch, b1tches); as well as some tapenade on lavaha bread w/gorgonzola

noob question on my side, BUT, if a person comes here on a family based visa, and it doesn't work out to where they live happily ever after, i.e. divorce, why do they want to stay here? i mean, "i have this friend" :P, it is not me, i swear.

AAm is the queen of spice  Seriously, she is a gourmet chef!

I grew up in Tejas...loved the TexMex...lived in MexicoCity for un ano tambien in 2006, missed real Mex when I moved up more norther 10 or 15 years ago.

AAm never had MexFood prior to moving to the USA. So I took AAm (when she first arrived in the USA and we were living in Michigan) to a MexFood restaurant. She said to me, "Michigan has its own food?" I said, 'Sure!"(thinking she said 'Mexican'). Apparently, when English is your second language, 'Michigan' and 'Mexican' sound alot alike...so for about the first year she was here...everytime we went for MexicanFood, she thought we were eating 'MichiganFood':lol::lol:

Now though she knows the difference and really really loves MexFood...but it did take her a while to adapt to MexRice from ThaiRice...

There are a few, and even there are ones who are not in any other country realtionship that come to stir the pot.

 <-- Michigan Food

Vicky is a great cook too. We have Thai food about 4-5 nights a week, and then the leftovers go into a tupperware for my lunch the next day.

I love it, though I admit that I now look forward to opportunities to eat western food, just to get some variety from Thai

We had fajitas + margaritas last night at a Mexican restaurant after her ESL test. Yum yum!
