Well, let's just say we never had enough time to go to Trader Joe's. Pedro said Bi-Lo was the very same thing just with a different name. :jest:

Seriously though, did I miss out? Is it more European? I usually get most of the stuff I need for my cooking at Harris Teeter. Or is Trader Joe's all organic?

Its actually owned by ALDI...

They have some organic things... but not everything there is. Its really just a fancy ALDI with fancier selections.

hehehe...it's a nice little market for some things. We buy most of our vegetables at an asian market and our meat at Costco. For things like range free eggs, organic ketchup, and a decent selection of cheese and chocolate, TJ's is the place we go. :)

Aldi

I haven't been to an Aldi in at least 15 years. Their stuff sucks!

Hey some of their stuff ain't all that bad. I too had gone w/out ALDI for years before popping in for some. Now its a good place to get milk, regular cheese, some meats, stuff like that. Mega cheap compared to regular old supermarket. Oh and the 100 calorie snacks taste just like the regular ones.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

It probably varies from country to country. We used to buy at Aldi when I was a kid and their stuff was good. They didn't even have milk or meats back then. But the quality has gone down since then. So my Mom now shops at Lidl, the direct competitor to Aldi. They have their own generic stuff plus popular brands, so you get the best out of both worlds.

I just shop at a Harris Teeter equivalent, but only because it's the supermarket closest to my house and I don't have a car. But I would probably not go to Lidl either - I enjoy shopping so much, I don't like going to the discount places with the products in boxes in the shelves. I like a nice atmosphere, since I take my time to shop and actually enjoy it. So I am ok with paying more, since it's an "experience" for me rather than something I have to do.

You would be the salvation of the American retailer. :D

Yes, TJ's is a really nice niche store of specialty foods that fills in the gaps from those standard items we get at costco, and safeway. Reasonable pricing of high quality items seems to be a major goal of TJ's. Been going there since I was a kid.

there is a new chain of stores that opened up around here in the last few years called Fresh & Easy.... I shop there in-between my big shopping trips and buy most of my produce there..

my hubby and I love their pasta salad and ice cream and they sell ketchup that doesn't have HFCS..
