 Today is Tuesday and our dead line for our first RFE is July 17th. I am leaving for Greece this Saturday and I STILL haven't received my fiance's final divorce decree. He swears his mother mailed them to me in June, probably mid June regular mail. It should have been here by now. So I will leave strict instructions for my sister if it happens to come on Saturday when I leave. But I doubt it. So now I had to request all new documents and bring them with me to Greece and have him sign everything and start all over.

The good thing is I have copies of all the papers we did this time so filling them out will be easy.

I am so frustrated and so pissed off with my fiance for dropping the ball on this.

Many thoughts have been running through my head:

Is he really divorced?

Did his mother not send them?

Is this a sign from God that I shouldn't be with him?

Is he lying about even getting the papers?

We have fought about this last week when I knew it was my breaking point as I was screaming in my cell phone at him that he f*&^#$ this up.

So I have prayed a lot about this and have come to realization that me, the ####### retentive person that I am, has no control over this situation. How many more times can I ram my head into the wall to try and fix something that I can't. He F*A$ this up and that is that.

SO I told him today, well now that our case is going to close we have to do everything all over again and wait another 5 months. He tells me he has another idea and will discuss it with me when I get there. Yeah, sure buddy! What are you going to do? Try to get through Canada? Try to get through Mexico, GOOD LUCK!!!!

So, expect to see me around here a lot longer than need be.

Please make sure you don't wind up like us do to the other one not be organized and a team player.

UGH what a huge pain. Just one thought and probably a long shot - but have you tried to contact Vermont to see if there is any possibility of getting an extension on the RFE return date? Maybe if you explain that the necessary documentation appears to have been lost in the mail, they can extend it? I know it seems unlikely, but it might be worth the trouble to double check. Good luck!

WOW. What can I say? I feel for you. The process is stressful as it is... And the 5-month waiting can easily turn into a 6, 7... many-months waiting. Augh.

Now, now. I see that you've questioned yourself as to whether he's really divorced. Dude, this is serious s***! This whole event has even shaken your trust in him!

Also, maybe the idea he's come up with is to file for a K3? I don't know.

I only offer advice - not even legal. Just the plain and simple kind.

I'm so sorry Bridgett. If he sent them, I hope there's a tracking number to at least give you some peace of mind. If he didn't send it express, then I have no idea what he was thinking. In any case, you have every reason to be angry. Hope that you two can figure out what is the best course of action now.

You should ask yourself why a man that claims to be divorced is having his mother mail items that are his responsibility. Not trying to be Scrooge here, but from you short description in this post, you have doubts, and he seems to rely on you and his mom to do all the work. Doesn't sound very responsibel to me, but that is just my opinion.

Asking for the extension might work and give you time to ask your finace those questions you are asking yourself. Just a thought. Good luck, Payato

I hope when you see him you can talk this out & figure out why he/his mom hasn't sent it. Also, in your timeline, it says he was refused a travel visa, but you don't say why - should that be of concern to you as well?

Hope it works out for you.

Yes, he was denied his travel visa. According to section 214(B) under travel visas, they felt he didn't have strong enough economic ties to Greece to insure that he would come back to Greece. That he would come here and stay. He also told them that he was coming here to visit his Girlfriend (me at the time before engagement) and that raised a red flag. He lives in an apartment in Athens but the apartment is owned under his fathers name. I had contacted the Athens Embassy when this happened and they explained why they denied him. SUCKS!!!

Hi Bunnygr!! *hugs* I'm sorry to hear about this! (F) You have every right to be really pissed off right now, but don't accuse him of still being legally married/never getting the papers, etc. just yet. Go to Greece and see how things are when you get there -- tell him that you don't think the papers his mother sent will arrive, so you want to go down to the city registrar (or wherever one goes) and get the divorce decree again so you can bring it with you when you go back to NY. See how he reacts and if he's willing to do this (which he'll have to to get the visa anyway, so why not do it when you're there and can bring them back yourself?). If he's REALLY resistant or if he keeps procrastinating on it, then you can ask him whether or not he's really divorced or whatever you suspect.

But if he's just been lazy thus far, tell him you're angry (as you should be!) but try and forgive him if you can and enjoy your time with him.

Good luck! *HUG again* PM me if you want to talk :)

Wow - if you have doubts THAT big you should think about this seriously. This is MARRIAGE...a huge deal and it's based on trust. This isn't the first post I've seen from you where you have questioned your fiance and his dependability.

Read the post today from...silverbuttlerfly I think...her fiance was also not cooperative or helpful and they called theirs off. I'm not saying to do that but think seriously if this is the man with whom you really want to spend the rest of your life.

You seem to have serious doubts.

Finally finished with immigration in 2012!

Sorry to hear this - but do try what others have suggested and see about getting an extension from Vermont.

I am sure his mom sent the papers and that he is divorced. The culprit here is the regular mail.

As for him....Greeks are never in a rush! They just aren't. I am Greek, and I can tell you that my non-N. American Greek relatives are all very laid back about timelines. Perhaps this will make him understand that when you press him for stuff, there is a reason! you are not just being an uptight American.

Hope you can get that extension! ANd have fun on your trip, at least!

04/13/06 - I-129F mailed

My fiance' was denied a travel visa as well for the same reason as bunnygr's -- no strong enough economic ties in Italy/Albania to show he would have returned after his visit. Most people are denied a travel visa, esp. young men, so I wouldn't consider that denial a "red flag" or a reason to be concerned. Also, as far the visa is concerned, a denial of one visa (esp. a B1) isn't counted against you for the K-1 -- my fiance' won his visa yesterday (:D) and no one asked about the B1 denial at all. When you're denied, they DO stamp your passport with this SAD SAD SAD "US VISA DENIED: XX/XX/XXX" stamp though lol.
