Birth and Marriage Certificate translations?

Obviously I'm sending the same birth and marriage certificates to NVC that I sent to CIS. The translations will be exactly the same. I have them saved.

I translated them myself but for CIS I had a neighbor, who is a college Spanish professor, sign off saying she did them. Obviously there were no problems because now I'm at the NVC. All her statement said was,

I, the translator, certify that I am fluent in both English and Spanish and that the translations are true and accurate.

I have been reading that some folks have had their translations notarized. Is that necessary for the NVC or just being overly cautious?

for NVC they asking for originals if not so it supposed to be certified copy , and have to be written in the translations that it is certified copy and have all the stamps and signatures if needed dunno about the laws over there how to prove is it original or certified copy but this is what needed at the NVC stage and dont worry about them because you will get them back at the interview Good Luck

Send ORIGINALS to NVC bcz they will never accept CERTIFIED COPIES . Thats what we are going to do .

The NVC says

Original Document Requirements

The applicant and each family member who will accompany the applicant to the United States will need to submit original documents or certified copies of the documents listed in this section from an appropriate authority (the issuing entity).

Photocopy Requirements

In addition to sending the original documents or certified copies of the documents to the NVC, the applicant and each accompanying family member must submit a photocopy of the original documents or certified copies of the documents.

If you send orginals you will not get them back so that is something to think about.

We got our originals back at the interview- everything except the police certificate. I think you just have to ask for them.

I guess it depends on the embassy because we asked at the Embassy and they said that it would be in our packet that we took to POE. However, when we got there they wouldn't give them to us. In the end we never got our originals back. So it's best just to have extra copies.
