It was a mistake from our side, we asked a certified translator to translate our marriage cert and then we send our translated marriage cert to responsible authority to verify the accuracy of it. Attached to it was a copy of marriage cert. The authority just verified the translation and not the copy of marriage cert. Now they are asking for either original - which we won't sent because it may get lost - or certified copy of originial marriage cert. It seems they have some body there that can read Farsi :). Anyway, it's going to delay our visa process maybe for a week or 10 days , hopefully not more than that....

Question: Is it possible that my wife - who is the beneficiary - prints the cover letter, add it to cerfited copy and send it directly to NVC via DHL and not sending it to me - an agent - in order to save time?

I will call NVC on monday regarding this, but maybe you have asked this question before from NVC.

Appreciate your help,

ps) although it's a delay but it's good that it is easy fixable.... well, I'm just trying to calm myself !

hey i sent all originals to nvc and my wife got them back after interview last week, i think u should sent the original and copy with the translation and get it notorized from wal mart, i did the same thing with my wife death certificate, i translated myself and got it notorized in wal mart and i sent all originals with copies so they keep the copies and send the original to manila embassy and i did not lose anything. BYT the RFE usually take more than 10 days but just wait and some more people from vj will give u much better advice, good luck. abby n sheryl

Our time line for CR1 visa took only 5 months and 1 week or 156 days; from the filing the I-130 on the 03-12-2009 to Approval of NOA2 on the 05/13/2009, then Interview on the 08/18/2009 at Manila, Philippines. We had a daughter on the 11-12-2010 named AISHA JOY means HAPPY LIFE.a1_opt-1.jpga2_opt-1.jpga3_opt-1.jpg

Absolutely she can send it - anyone can mail the items.

Just want to say though, they don't just want a copy 'certified' by a 'responsible authority' - when they say 'certified copy' they mean a document that has been issued from the (normally government) department that issues copies in your country.

For instance, in Canada, for a marriage certificate, this would be a certified copy that you order from the provincial government. They have the 'original' and they send a certfied document to you, which NVC will accept.

Basically what I am saying is don't just take a photocopy of the original and have it certified by someone - they will not accept that.

You don't mention which country you are from.

I'm an Iranian American. My wife is an Iranian. In Iran the judiciary ministry is responsible for issuing marriage cert. What they have told my wife they will stamp each copied page that Copy is Equlavent of Orginial with Iran judiciary ministry logo , etc... they told her that's what people do.

thanks

Abby, this is so helpful to know that your original docs were returned after the interview. No one else here has reported this useful info.

Did you know beforehand that you would get your originals back?

A lot of people on vj have noted their originals were sent back to them or given back after interview.

If you don't want to do that, definitely get the certified copy from the issuing body, it says that in the instructions.

I don't have anything to add in regarding your question but just wanted to share that our originals were also given back to us after the interview even though we are still in AP. THey only kept the original police certificates, rest was all returned so don't worry about sending originals.

We thought about going for certified copies but it's a hassle to obtain certified copies in Pakistan so we sent the originals and it worked out just fine.
