i still dunno what the purpose is of sentencing one person to more than 1 life sentence....once they are dead they aren't coming back to serve any more time. Isn't stating life sentence enough...11 life sentences plus 50 years? of course they aren't going to serve that. If they are given the same kind of sensitive treatment as the terrorist from Libya, (getting out early just so he can die mercifully) they will be off punishment in no time...

I could care less if all those involved got death.

I wonder if there is really any justice in this world?

I think the rational is, each crime has it's own penalty, if one conviction is later overturned, the other convictions can still be held.

And though it is hard to believe... a life sentence is not always "life". In some states, they can get parole after x amount of years.

This is why so many like me argued for "Truth in sentencing" laws.

Of course the Libs fight it every time... well not EVERY time, it's best to time these legislative votes close to Election periods.

I am glad she didn't. Then she will now be behind bars as well, leaving her poor child alone. Or both would be dead.

ignorance of the law is no excuse for you to spout ####### like that. florida has a "castle doctrine" that would have allowed the woman to kill anyone who entered her home in a threatening manner. every state has a statutory provision to allow killing on defense against heinous crimes against the body or the threat therof.

Stuff like that makes me scared to be a sinlge mom who lives alone with her two kids. I do live in a really nice neighborhood and the cops patrol regularly, so I am a lot safer than she was.

I feel so sorry for her son. I hope he is able to have a normal life.

Those teenage boys should serve lifetime sentences for sure.

It's this sort of thing that makes me want to take my daughter back out of America. But where can we go? The truth is this sort of horror can happen anywhere. While it is true there is more crime in poorer areas, no place is safe. Look at what happened at the Florida/Alabama border a few weeks ago. Those were wealthy people living in a house with security and they were shot dead in their bed. Look at all the children who have been stolen from their beds at night from all kinds of homes, from as many if not more affluent homes than poorer homes.
