OK, before people say to use VoIP services... my fiance doesn't have a PC and the internet cafe's are very loud.. so we talk via her cellphone.

I started off using calling cards from 7-11 and realized that if i just used my cellphone, it was about the same price @ 23 cents a min.

after doing that for a month with a huge phone bill, i found a company called startec that is 9.9 cents a min to Globe cell phones.

I was wondering if anyone found or know anything even cheaper than that to call a mobile number.

After I get my first bill, i will see if the extra charges makes it higher than $10/hour. Right now, @ 10cents/min, it is going to be $6/hour plus whatever charges they add.

if it comes out to more than 10/hour, I will PM u to get that guy's information.

Thanks for the info, I will look into this. Are there any extra charges on top of the 5 pesos?

Since my fiance sends me money aside from my personal income as a working individual, I buy a Globe call card for Php 100 to call him and that's good for 40 minutes of straight conversation. For your $ 10 (say Php 470), that's worth four cards with 40 minutes each and 4 x 40 = 160 minutes. I think that Smart also has its own version of such call card (if your love's service provider is Smart). B)

hmm.. sounds about the same price..

Gosh, load is so confusing to me. there are so many different types of load and all that stuff.

being so used to the way services are in the US, it is really daunting with all the varieties.

if there was a way that i could just pay for her to have a cell phone that could call me.. i would do that. i'll ask her tonite about the different loads she already knows about.

Moist important thing is to use a service that you get GOOD records of the numbers you call. If it's a bit expensive use that one for short calls and something like startec or Talkloop for long calls.

Have you tried using a prepaid sim from the Philippines? I brought one back with me, she can call/text me for the normal prices, but for me to call her will be more expensive. It's good for backups. We mainly use Skype.

This is what me mainly used before we met and I got her Skype. I spent $500 in Calling cards and she probably spent the same or more of her own money to call me! She still has SOME of them and it's atleast a foot or more tall worth of cards! I hate those days!

Funny, she once wanted to call me and the shop closed and she banged on the door and pleaded with the guard to let her in to buy the cards. She was a regular so they allowed her in, but I laughed when it happened.

Calling Cellular number is expensive in any country........surprise,surprise..so imagine RP... no difference

I use SKYPE to call her Cellular number in RP and it is about 23 cents a minute...6 cents for text messages

We do text a lot to each other.....

and if you have an I-phone can use Skype as long you are near a WI-FI (internet wireless) connection

Watch out with Startec, they bill like a regular phone company so there are a lot of taxes & telcom charges tacked on to their bill. With the calling cards there is no additional fees but you don't get good records.

For my money it was well worth getting her a computer and payign for DSL at home, now we pay next to nothing (DSL & Phone service is $20 per month) for magicjack calls from her to my cell phone (unlimited minutes between 7pm & 7am).

Don't dismiss the VOIP route as it will cost you so little every month even when you add the cost of a cheap PC compared to calling cards or other services. plus with the PC & DSL at home you'll have more web cam time too!
