I'm trying to convince my husband we need to take skiing lessons this winter, so maybe that would be a good place to hit. He's lived in Colorado for 22 years and has never even attempted skiing! I need to help him change that.

I've been living in Colorado for 12 years and I'm with your husband, haven't skiied once and never plan on it. In fact I try and hibrinate when the snow hits. People here laugh at me saying that I moved to the wrong state over a decade ago and I agree. Eewwwwwww snow...

 I'm right with you on the snow! But, I'm trying to adopt a "if you can't beat it, join it" attitude.

A state like Hawaii, Florida, California would be great for a while during the winter... but in the summer? I'd probably melt. When it goes above 90 here I go around telling everyone that Canadians melt in intense heat. So far nobody has called me out on it :P

I'm always amazed at people that say they'd like to live in HI. I've been there. Unless you have a ton of money, you're not going to be living in the greatest of digs. It's VERY expensive. The scenery is nice, but in some places it's pretty trashy and run down. The ocean is nice, but there is ocean in lots of other places. I'm not putting people down that would choose to live there, I had my own picture in my head of what HI would look like before I went, and it just wasn't exactly like that everywhere. The humidity I didn't enjoy either, and the lack of a/c. Anyway, I just had to say that!

I was actually blessed by living there as a teen for awhile on Maui. My dad was working at the University of Hawaii in Paia so we lived right on the main Hana Highway. I've lived in several tropical places growing up because of my dad, so humidity and heat are something I'm used to and not bothered by it at all.

One thing I must say though is without a car Maui can be kind of dull compared to Oahu. All the kids etc always were jealous of those that lived in Honolulu and the big city. Everyone would say that Maui is the boring island. I remember being told that by kids in Oahu and by those in Maui. You do see the place not as a tropical resort, but as a home where the closest mall was a good 30 mins away and without a car, you're kind of stuck with things to really do day after day. I did a lot of bike riding and we lived down the road from a beach with lots of coral reefs though, so it was still nice.

I would move back though, especially that I'm older now and not really needing the big city nightlife etc (plus Honolulu can be very bad in places now and heavy drug issues). Guess that's the difference between living there as a kid and visiting there as a tourist, is that I can see the place as how it is on both sides of the issue. A tourist (been there twice before) and a resident...

Where's the love?? Who wants to live in Jersey... come on!

ME!!!! I wouldn't mind at all! It is right up my alley.... I love being a quick drive into the big city...and also not too far from the shore....I have specific areas though....we have friends that live in the Livingston, Short Hills area....that is North Jersey, about 15 miles from Lincoln Tunnel....it's beautiful there! I just find real estate is inflated.... a small 3 bedroom could run ya $800,000, a decent 4 bedroom with a nice landscaped layout would run you over $1mill easy...

My husbands family is originally from Ocean City, and have a few homes....so we are there often...I guess that kind of makes me 'living in Jersey' at least part time lol... I love Jersey....I know, i'm a minority....I would take Jersey over where I live right now...hands down! We would so move if we had a chance, but my husband can't leave his practice...

I make fun of him all the time.....'of all places DELAWARE????? Seriously?????' he does plan on only doing it for a few more years and then retiring....he then said I get to choose where we go....I would love to move to Greece part time....but my poor son lol...i'll ruin his teen life lol....HAHA!

The only states I have much memory of are California and Florida.

I will be living in California, and I'd choose to stay there :P

I love the food where my fiance lives, and they have a really good market for super cheap vegetables.

what part of CA would that be and which market...just trying to get familiar where I will be living..

thnx

It's about 30 minutes southeast of LA.

I think it's called "Bestway". I'll have to double check though. It's a mexican supermarket.

They have such good fruit sales.

You can get 4lbs of grapefruit for 1 DOLLAR!

3lbs of green apples for a dollar, 20 limes for a dollar, 4lbs of tomatoes for a dollar, the list just goes on and on and on.

Great place.

Sounds like you're ending up in my direction somewhere!

I love Santa Ana, CA...I really do. The area is nice and their heat because of where it sits, usually mid 90's is a high, only rarely do they get into the 100's. Most times its about 60-80. Little humidity as well which is nice because I have a feeling its one of the reason's I'm sick here so much..mold is a killer to me.

We live in Pennsylvania(Delaware County for the OP). I've always lived here but I'd pick Colorado or New England, if I had to. My wife thinks PA is much prettier, tree-wise than Ontario, but likes the lakes up north better. She hates the congestion, dirtiness of the area and that the layout doesn't make sense(nice river, but airport, etc).

 You're one of the people I was thinking of MrsCat! We had another thread once and you mentioned you're rather be living in AK. Didn't your husband live in Alaska before this visa journey? And yes, I'm sure if you or anyone was a millionaire, the place (wherever they lived) would be fab!
