I have been living in Cebu Philippines for 6 months. We will probably get married later this year.

I had a bad experience with a fiance visa in the past, so I chose to come here and live for an extended time.

There is a very high risk to you if you carry on only an email and chat relationship and only go to visit your fiance

for a short time. The only way to really get to know someone is in person over time.

Many men ignore this advice because they have found a girl much prettier and younger than anything they can get in the states.

You are at a high risk for financial and emotional loss if you dont do some careful thinking.

Do you really understand the culture of the girl? Depending on where she is from, she may be living in poverty and lack of opportunity.

You are only a ticket out of her circumstances.

Im happy that I chose to live here, because at the 6 month mark we are only just beginning. in many ways.

Bringing a girl to the usa and getting to know her there is very high risk if not suicide.

the hard heads will raise noise to this... but I hope someone will take notice and spare themselves a lot of trouble.

Not to be a Debbie Downer here but it's relative. You're in her turf, she is comfortable, she's within the confines of familiar environment. A big plus is her USC bf is around so everything is peachy... a familiar home, friends and bf around. Hauling her to the USA is yet another test. People change depending on where you position them. Enjoy your period of courtship and kumbayaing. But expect more challenges. Nothing in love and marriage is that cut and dry.

I guess those of us that didnt do as you say are doomed to failure. I wish I had known.

Now we know to look to you for guidence. There must be a bright light shining behind you as you sit there on your mountain of knowledge for all to see. Oh to be such a sage. It must feel good to lord over the millions of mullions swimming at your feet. How to you decide who is to live & who is to die? Its a huge burden to bear.

Good luck in your stay with your fiancee. Just wanna say that i believe in destiny and true love. My hubby and I were chatting for 3 long years everyday before he came to meet me in person. He only came to visit me once and we are happilly married with our 13 month old baby and going strong.

No matter how long you stay with her if there is no real love then the stay is useless..but it is your choice and as long as you are happy then good luck.

Let's keep judgmental comments out of this thread. If you have nothing useful to add to the discussion, then please don't add anything.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Thats your opinion.

In mine the Op is attacking my experiance & passing judgment on me for what I have done. Questioning my understanding of my wifes culture ect. What is the point of that? The high risk of bringing a women to the USA if not suicide?

Please.

I would take a guess that the people that live together in their SOs foreign country probably have a higher long term success rate than people that have met once and chatted online before they came to the US. Like I said, just a guess.

To add to that, I know three people here on VJ alnoe from Thailand alone that pretty much got taken for a ride. The girls were all into them while they were sending $ to Thailand. Once they got the visa they bailed out and never came to the US. I'm not saying this is the case for all, but it does seem to happen.

Many men ignore this advice because they have found a girl much prettier and younger than anything they can get in the states.

You are at a high risk for financial and emotional loss if you dont do some careful thinking.

Bringing a girl to the usa and getting to know her there is very high risk if not suicide.

the hard heads will raise noise to this... but I hope someone will take notice and spare themselves a lot of trouble.

I think your way is a fine choice. You had an opportunity to do this and if I was financially able, I would probably have done the same thing. However, the vast majority of us "hard-Headed" types are working stiffs with little money and time. look, if you want to be "practical" then stay single. You avoid the risk of anything screwing up that way.

For me, life is an adventure and takes many twists and turns. I took 4 years to know Naty and build my life up where I could bring her here. So for me my friend, my way was also fine.

I hope your SO can adjust to your pessimistic approach to life Sir. I would not want someone that sees storms on the horizon when the sun is streaming through the windows.

The first setback came during the medical. Naty had to do the 3 day sputum and then we waited 2 months for the results. YESSSS>came back negative

Went for her interview on July 16th and received her Pink Slip......Finally. Paid the AIR21 and I expect her here August 10th, 2009. Marriage will be August 21st, exactly 4 years to the day that we first met.

I don't think he's being pessimistic by wanting to spend 6 months with her. As you said it's great that he has the resources to do that. Kinda hard to see sunshine or storms on the horizon if you meet someone once IMO.
