From a legal standpoint, I understand why they allowed the release. I don't agree with it and feel the man deserved no compassion. The thing that I find disgusting is this :

Well very few people do agree with it, MC is on a very short list and I think we can add Hal and Pike to that list too.

The law however does believe that every criminal in Scottish prisons is entitled to apply for compassion and be granted it if set criteria are met - all of which were.

The Scottish government have no say in how the Libyans treat their criminals.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Away from his family. That seems like punishment for the family, not the guy. And I don't think the family went on trial.

Uh hal what about the family of the 270 people that died. How do you think there families feel about this?

Some of them are actually OK with it - there was a guy quoted in one of the OP articles. Imagine that.

Well is that a congruent argument to counter mine?

:secret: Nope (You missed the point apparently)

You don't punish likely innocent people just to get back at someone for the horrible harm they've caused. That's plainly stupid and I doubt the families of the victims would think it a just punishment.

I don't think the guy should have been released. That is likely where the families' outrage as well as my disagreement lies.

True... it is disgusting.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

I think he could have created a precedent that worked. IE under a conviction based on International Terrorism.

I think you are moving into very dodgy 'what if' territory with that statement. It is wrong to change law because of public outcry, period. If the scottish parliament based on this case decide to change the law, properly and with the necessary legal parameters set, then so be it, but setting precedents in this way is very dodgy.

That video is SICK. Someone should have planted a bomb on that plane IMO.

That would be pretty disgusting too- leading likely to a new round of terrorists targeting more innocent people.

I don't know what exists in Scottish law for the prosecution/punishment of terrorism offences. I would guess there was some possibility that the laws enacted by Downing Street would apply - but as the UK Govt chose to remain silent....

Regardless - its unlikely the Justice Secretary has the latitude to spontaneously create policy out of the air.

Several highly derogatory, insulting and racially inflammatory comments which violated TOS have been removed along with some good posts quoting the same. “...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”
