Had the flight been destroyed say 3 hours later I assume he would have been extradited and prosecuted in the US no? Probably would be dead or waiting on a deathrow in the US this day?

No, summary execution is when you execute someone without a trial.

Things have moved in a worrying direction in the last few years, but its not legal to blow someones head off in the back of a police station.

I do know a family that is still grieving over the loss of their teenager aboard that flight and is absolutly infuriated and feel betrayed over this.

The terrorist does not deserve any mercy-IMO and I hope the healthcare system in Syria is not equipped to prolong his life one second longer than he is already speculated to have.

Of course with the prevalence worldwide of most cancers its kind of hard to guesstimate how much... although for his sake I hope his body is acting out the horrors he apparently caused upon others- its only a little poetic justice. But I wasn't being rabid. I really feel that there is a modicum of justice in the fact that his death won't be long in coming. It's hard not to feel that way when people you know are still living the horror of the knowledge of just how their loved one died.
