Hmmm... I can definitely understand how some folks would be easily confused by legislative language. But really... if people don't want to learn to verify the source of their philosophical, political, and economical motives, then they shouldn't be participating in the process at all. That just makes them appear to those that do fact check as complete tools.

We can be pros at everything and sometimes we must rely on the pros. Life is just too short. I would argue that if your going to take a stand for or against this bill that you should have a very good understanding of the bill but to be able to comprehend and digest 1000 pages of legal nonsense is a whole different thing.

And the clock continues to tick. Time that could have been spent better utilized on reading.

It is interesting we mention professionals in the interpretation of language. I think most people would consider irresponsible to believe 'pros' that mention things that would come about of these bills by direct action of these bills when in quite clear fact, those things are not themselves written in the bills.

Hence the need for reading. The language really isn't that complicated to understand.

it's a lot of pages?

double spaced ... 25 lines/ page ... approx average of ~8 words/ line ...

heck Louis L'Amour wrote longer short stories.

and you have read it all... good grief

An economics professor at a major university said he never failed a student, but he once failed an entire class:

The class insisted Obama's style of socialism would improve the world, by eliminating rich and poor, thus making everyone the same. The professor then proposed that he run his class the same way-- he would average all the exam scores and each person in the class would recieve that as his/her score.

On the first test, the average was a "B". The students who hadn't studied were thrilled- they each got a B with little effort. The hard working students who had applied themselves were outraged that they got the same result as those who had done little.

On the next test, the industrious ones slacked off (there was no reward to reach for) and the lazy ones did even less than before. The class average for this test was a "D", and that's what everyone got.

On the third test, Half the class did not even show up for the exam, reasonong that even with no effort at all, and no reward even if effort was put forth, they would at least get the average score of everyone else. Well, as you can imagine, the "zero" score they earned weighed heavily into the average of those who had at least taken the test. The final average score was of course an "F" and that's what each person in the class received.

So true. We are there so get used to it.

First of all Obama is not a socialist... his policies do have some aspects similar to socialism, but to say he is a socialist is simply not true. If you want to find a definition of socialism just google it... its easy to find.

Obama wants to tax those who make more than 250K more & give a tax break to those who do not. What kills me is that the majority of the people bitching about his plan make less than 250K. I'm not an expert but I guarantee you even if Obama taxes the rich more they will find loopholes & end up paying a fraction of what they would have.

I personally favor a flat tax, with no loopholes... everyone pays a fixed percentage of their gross income.

Those people that whine are commonly referred to as tools, given the nature of the financial hierarchy of the very system they are tools of. Ironic, indeed.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

I am a homeowner... if you want a fair system then everyone pays the same %. If it's 10% and you make 100K then it's $10,000; if you make $30,000 then it's $3,000, etc. Under any other system the middle class gets screwed.

I'm trying to find a fair solution... if there's a better one I'm all ears. Like I said I'm no expert on this topic (took a few courses on it in college, that's it).

unfortunately, i don't think a fair tax across the board fits too well with the far left's mantra of tax the rich until they bleed.
