I just heard a commercial that Vonage has extended there calling areas, and now includes 60 countries, such as India. Has anyone ever used it? I am highly considering it now. Just want to know if it is any good. I currently use western union calling card. Of course it is a year's contract, but I am thinking when my husband gets here, it will be easy on him to call home.

I've used it in the past. Very good.

One recommendation: Make sure you're not downloading anything at the same time you're talking to your spouse. You may get dropped connection or severe delay.

You plug it in to the router, that they supply, then to your computer. It is completely dependant on your internet connection.

We had vonage when we were living in the U.S. - I think it's great.

Your computer does not need to be on for it to work. As a matter of fact, since the VOIP router does not need to process the connection link with the computer, your voice (Vonage) will work better.

So vonage is alot like magic jack except magic jack is only US and Canada.

I am have to look into something also....we just use STI phone cards when he needs to call home.

How are the rates for the Western Union phone cards? I never heard of them before.

it is their gold card. i usually get about 7-9 cents a minute. i was using them instead of vonage because u can pretty much call anywhere. but now after talking on here, i may switch. the only bad part is i talk to him a lot while i am not at home, so that is something for me to consider. we will probably definitely go with it when he gets here. looks like a huge money saver.

By the way, just wanted to mention - since I am cancelling my vonage service as we moved back to Canada - if you cancel your service within a year of starting your vonage contract (say you don't like it for whatever reason) you will be charged a $39.99 'disconnection fee'.

I'm just on the phone with them now - they won't budge on it - anyway, just a heads up!

kind of.. except with Magic Jack I am pretty sure your computer has to be on in order for it to work... with Vonage it works even when the computer is off, it just needs the internet connection to be on...
