Currently my wife is in Macau. When she gets home she wants to join the militray. I fully support her on this. It will maybe make some changes in our life but I think it will be a good thing for her. I think she will get good training. Currently she works at a private school which is just a fancy name for a Day Care. They take advantage of her all the time cause she is always willing to help out.

She is affraid they will send her over to Iraq or Afganastan. I told her they are reducing the number of troops in Iraq but you may go to Afganastan. She said she wants to join the Navy but she can only go reserves but she can go Active in US ARMY. so I told her if you go Reservers you can still be called to active duty and be shipped off there. It affects all branches of the arm forces. Anyone can be deployed.

Charles, talk to me, would like to talk to you about it.

I think having her go Active is the best way. with the new GI bill at least her son can go to college cause he will be covered by that.

i suggest you wake her up at 0430 and take her for a 3 mile run every day for a week. then yell at her all day long while she does things like rearrange the rocks, sweeps the sidewalk, and then send her off to go buy some prop wash at home depot.

Don't forget the yelling and being called names in a cadence the whole while.

That generally only lasts about eleven weeks, a very long eleven weeks, but it passes, if you study and work hard, rewards come. For your wife, I would recommend the USAF, in reality, only the pilots are put in harms way, bases are very well defended, and she can gain skills in practically any line of work she desires, medical seems to be the best choice right now if she can take the blood and vomit. But any branch of the armed services runs on paperwork, plenty of administrative work for her. With the USAF, would be always on a base, and you may even be able to visit her. Won't be able to do that if she is stuck on a ship for six months.

If she really wants to join and understands that she signs a commitment of years usually 4 but can be extended at the Military's discretion)-and cannot pick (much) where she gets stationed or sent on temporary duty then I recommend the USAF -failing that, then the NAVY.

Take a large, almost round, rotating sphere about 8000 miles in diameter, surround it with a murky, viscous atmosphere of gases mixed with water vapor, tilt its axis so it wobbles back and forth with respect to a source of heat and light, freeze it at both ends and roast it in the middle, cover most of its surface with liquid that constantly feeds vapor into the atmosphere as the sphere tosses billions of gallons up and down to the rhythmic pulling of a captive satellite and the sun. Then try to predict the conditions of that atmosphere over a small area within a 5 mile radius for a period of one to five days in advance!

Well Nick, I agree with you I would love for her to join the Air force. but she is too old for them.

Army is only one that will take her cause of her age. :)

Got to disagree with this....Yeah we sent our pilots up there-but there is support staff en masse on the ground in forward locations 'in harms way' too.

My WIfe is 38 will be 39 in December. She can only join the navy reserves. I do not think she will get much experince with the reservers one weekend a month and 2 weeks a year.

also the benifets are very limited.

I would prefer also the airforce but cant be.

I looked on Militray.com for age limits and I saw each branch limits. if they all are the same great Air Force then Navy.

Heck even she was 29 she is too old for the marines. but not for any other branch.

Take Care

IMO more and more reservists are active duty in all but permenant name. Military is so thinly spread reservists are called upon with increasing frequency.

I understand what you are saying about benefit limitations, but in my experience, reservists are given the same training as AD-they just don't get the op to utilize it very much.

IMO-Army is pref over Marines any day. Have you spoken to a recruiter for the AF or Navy? There is a phrase I came to know and love in the Military...."Everything is waiverable......"

My neighbors wife is in the NG with army, received some very good training as a physicians assistant that is very good paying job. But she was shipped to Iraq a couple of months ago, didn't think Obama was going to do that. But my neighbor knows his wife is safe working in a very well protected hospital base in Iraq, but neither he nor their seven year old daughter will see her for 18 months. She was in the NG since she was 18 and has become an officer.

Was disturbed a couple of years when three 18 year old girls I know personally joined the Army NG, promised good schools and tuition payments, but ended up finishing basic then sent to Texas for seven weeks of MP training then shipped to Iraq, our daughter was almost one of them. Hopefully today the situation with Bush gone is much different. We don't even have enough of the WI NG left to help us in case of disasters here, that is suppose to be their job.

I somewhat admire the willingness to serve at an advanced age but it shows there's a lot young folks 18-25 who'll never enlist even with Obama in charge and the worse recession in almost 30 years.

That one has been debunked years ago. Plenty of NG troops around and the role of NG and Reserves expanded as the Regular Army shrank.

Well I remember it as 12 weeks but nevertheless if one makes it through basic then everything after was fun fun.

brother yogi, my son trained with several female soldiers in basic....they have lesser PT (physical training scores) than males..but do similar training ...

my advice, make certain she signs up for training...that is, a skill she can later use in civilian life....

yes brother Dean.. I will make sure of that. I want her to maybe get into some medical or even IT if she can. Most likely a medical.

Let her get a degree and then get commision and hope maybe become a RN or something. She works part time ina Rest home and is very good with the old people.

even not a nure maybe a dental asst. or dental hygenist. I hear they make serious Bank in civilian life

Peace
