This was a place I go to everytime I am in Ho Chi Minh. Its my favorite food there. Fried rice and shrimp.

That pic reminds me that I miss those cold hand towels here as well...

I don't miss that one street in Ha Noi that has people selling nothing but Thit Cho... whole roasted or various cuts.. I walked down that street so fast to avoid the sheer volume of options available for sale that they probably thought I just stole something... I'm used to seeing one or two here or there...

And I have to ask.. Has anyone eaten the "blue chicken"? I saw it first in Sapa and here's a picture that my son took...

i have to say the best food in vietnam is from street stalls. they really sell the best stuff. just because they dont have a store to sell food out of dont mean it isnt good. in fact it is one of the best and cheapest way to feed a hungry stomach under $5. if anyone ever been to the restaurant cong thu bac lieu, then you know it's total #######. big really really big place and the worse food ive ever eaten and it cost me $700k for 12 ppl.

I have convinced myself that the best meal I ever had in my life was the 3+ million VND meal that 3 of us had in Vung Tau... Seafood place near the water... Thuy ordered some things that had no price in the menu... that wont ever happen again.. she cried her eyes out when she realized they had gotten over on us.. oh yeah and the credit card machine wont take my card.. cash only! The food was OK.. but not close to 200 USD good by any stretch...

but I keep telling myself it was the best meal ever... well worth the price.... ouch!

I also enjoy all of the seafood over there and the food that my mother in law cooks. She made the bomb azz mam me and ca keo chien. Oh man, 1 more week and i'll be devouring these special items again. hehehehe That's just a few items. Gotta get off work and will post more later.

I almost forgot, I agree the cart food is really good a well. The first time I was there I was seeing these whit things all the time. Well Binh's mom got some for us one night and the Dumplings are really good. It is a rice flower with a small egg inside and some sausage. It is surprisingly filling and it only cost 50 cents. SO for a big stomacher 1 buck will more than fill you up. I would love to see MC Donald's try to put something on their dollar menu that would fill you up like those did!

There was a nice little mi shop in Phu Nhuan around the corner from Linh's place and right across the street very good cam suon. I felt bad going to one place or the other because I felt like the other owner was staring at me for the betrayal. Weird I know, but good food. I miss it.

Linh's mom cooks awesome bahn cahn.

I will miss going over there even if it is two feet from the sun hot.

And of course the only thing france ever did well for Vietnam, bahn mi. With real butter and a cup of steaming tea in the morning before the sun comes up.

I'll also give the French credit for inventing the writing system used in Vietnam based on the Latin alphabet. It's a helluva lot easier for westerners to learn than the stylistic characters used by most other east Asian countries. Once you get the basics down, you can pronounce just about anything correctly, even if you don't know what you're saying! :P

Has to be Pho for me as I eat it so much but never had a dish of anything Vietnamese that I didn't like. Luckily my wife is an awesome cook too.

I was not allowed to eat at the stalls or anywhere while I was in Vietnam and when we went on trips everything was brought with us. We did go get ice cream a couple of times and coffee many times but could drink nothing with ice and such.

We have many Vietnamese places to eat here where I live and stores and even a huge area not too far where a whole community is at and anything my wife needs or wants Vietnamese is there. We even had a new Vietnamese restaraunt open a few blocks away from where I live and it is pretty good.
