Kajikat - you could always adopt :) Both my brother and I are adopted...different mothers...and I like to think we both turned out pretty well. If Ic ouldn't have children I would DEFINITELY adopt. My parents gave me a life better than my birth parents could have and Ia m so thankful that I was given a second chance!!!

Finally finished with immigration in 2012!

Neither Sian nor I particularly like children. Actually, we can't stand them. Lucky really, since we both are concerned about over-population. Also, we both feel that it is incredibly selfish for anyone to have more than 2 children - one to replace each parent. It's greedy and hurts the planet. Not to mention what it does to property taxes. (More kids = more kids in school = higher taxes) Personally, I'm tired of paying triple what my property taxes were 4 years ago just so I can underwrite the families with 3, 4, 5 or more children.

I have a son from a previous relationship (he'll be 18 this month - he lives with his mother.... I've never even met him. Her choice, not mine - she bailed just before the wedding.) and Sian has a son from a previous relationship - Jordan, who will be moving here with her. In the end, it works out. One couple - two kids.

Anyway, Sian works in genetics (Specifically, she works for the NHS analyzing fetal DNA). For every year over 30 the mother is, the greater the chance that a baby would have some sort of "problem", such as Down's Syndrome. Even if we wanted more kids - which we DON'T - she would be hesitant based on that.

Ok, everyone can start the replies now about how horrible we are because we can't stand kids. Believe me, I'm used to it.

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.

I don't think your views on children is horrible at all. This is a choice, and you have every right to feel the way you do. Just because there is a couple (male and female) doesn't mean that they should have children. I had a girlfriend who absolutely hated children, people worried the sh*t out of her as to why she would not want one, that she was a woman and all women want babies! Knowing her for so long, I never felt a reason to judge her she didn't like children so why have any?

me and my twin both are adopted. my mother had problems conceiving babies.

she lost like 5 of them. :( then she decided to at least be open to adoption. when she saw us

she thought " they are some cute, well behaved twins, that can bring me good joy in the world"

so she quickly - Ran out of the adopton center before the twins followed her home. :P

when she finally arrived home quess what! "twins". those 2 bad azz twins were at her door!.

just kidding..

she agreed to adopt the cute little twins. I agreed to adopt cute little parents. My life with them

have been really beautiful. I know I made my parents life really beautiful too. here is a picture

of me and my twin. BEFORE me and my twin were adopted.

I am soo ready for kids I can't stand it...but hubby wants to wait and with good reason. He only just got here and we need to share eachother selfishly for at least two years....but darn it..I am READY

I'm in the same boat as you! I want kids NOW, he wants to wait. And I suppose we will, since I would like to have been in my job long enough for the big chunks of maternity leave my company provides.

That's really cool. :) I'd also adopt if I can't have kids. My close friends just adopted a 4 yr old little boy and he is so cute!!! They weren't sure if they'd be able to get pregnant, as my friend had a miscarriage 2 years ago and hadn't gotten pregnant since. So they wanted to adopt. They went through the state as they couldn't afford the outrageous costs of adopting through private co's or overseas. After they met the little boy who would become part of their family, my friend found out she was pregnant!! :D She is now 7 months pregnant with a baby girl, and they feel like God postponed her getting pregnant just so they could adopt their little boy who was meant to be with them(otherwise they could have missed this opportunity completely). He feels like he's always been part of their family now.

I couldn't answer the poll, not enough options so I'll answer it here:

Do you have children already? no, I don't

Are you planning on having kids...or more kids? Yes

If you are having more kids, why not now? First because we're not married yet, second it's impossible for me to get pregnant being in Brazil and Charles being in the States :P

But we both want kids. :star:

I have two girls from a previous marriage. We are not having any more because I am fixed! LOL! Actually we made that decision together because he has a disorder that can be passed on and we didn't want to take the chance that a child may have to go through what he has gone through. We are content with my two little angels.

This baby factory is closed!

We had toyed with the idea before I got here. How wonderful it would be to have our own child and all that. Once we experienced a house with four children in it from the age of 2 to 11 we knew we were so done. We love each others children as our own, we had concerns whether a new baby between us may cause resentment from the others also, not that we could not of got through that.. it was just another reason not to. That and we are already counting down till they are grown and out of the house

We're going to seriously consider that... but you have to have been married for 2-3 years before they'll even let you express an interest, and then it takes a couple of years after that to arrange an adoption. By which time DH might well be too old for them to let us do it. (he's 42 and not in the best of health)...

Karen - Melbourne, Australia/John - Florida, USA

STAGE 2B - Applying for AOS to GC Approval - 9 months, 4 days (279 days)

STAGE 3 - Lifting Conditions. Filing (19 Dec 2007) to Approval (December 11 2008)

STAGE 4 - CITIZENSHIP (filing under 5-year rule - residency start date on green card Jan 11th, 2006)

You might want to check into the adoption of a foreign child through Holt International. There are loads of kids in other countries who need good homes - and you don't get into the business where mama comes back three or four years from now and tries to reclaim the infant she once gave up. Depending on the country, there may also be fewer restrictions on the parents such as weight, age and health. You still have to jump through many of the hoops you do with American agencies as far as having your background and home checked out, but a lot of the archaic restrictions regarding parental health and age are more 'loose' with some international adoptions.

My fiancé and I do not have kids. We both want kids, but want to wait until we have been married a couple years. I can't wait, but right now it's not what we need and we don't want them in the first year of marriage.
