Travel - name different on GC and passport

So, I didn't think ahead. We went ahead and filed for my ROC using my maiden name. My passport is about to expire and I'd like to renew it in my married name and then worry about changing my name on my GC later (or at time of citizenship).

We are going to be traveling and I'm wondering if this will be a problem for re-entry to the US. I have not renewed my passport yet so if it's a big deal, then I can do it under my maiden name -but I don't want to as I'll have to pay an additional fee for a name change on that too.

If I travel with:

1. green card - maiden name

2. passport - married name

3. marriage certificate

2. ticket issued in maiden name ....hmmm... this may be the catch....

Will this be sufficient?

Foreign nationals that are lawful permanent residents of the U.S. must present a Permanent Resident Card (“Green Card”, INS Form I-551), a Reentry Permit (if gone for more than 1 year), or a Returning Resident Visa (if gone for 2 years or more) to reenter the United States. U.S. LPRs are not required by the U.S. to have a passport for travel, although most foreign destinations will require you to have one to enter their country. (LPRs that are out of the U.S. for more than 180 days are subject to new immigrant inspection procedures as per 8 USC 1101.)

your GC can have your maiden name in entering the US.... but your passport and your ticket should match.

.... i stayed in my country for 11 months and renewed my passport with my married name. my GC has still my single lastname on it since i didnt have to renew it till june of this year. my ticket they said is supposed to match my passport.

I travel all the time with my GC in my married name and my passport in my former name. It's never caused a problem yet. Both are still your legal names. Like the previous poster says.... just as long as your tickets match your passport name, you're good to go.

Airline Tickets and Passport must match re name.

Just wanted to say that there are no provisions anymore in Canada to have an amendment done to change your name on your passport. The passports are good for 5 years. You used to be able to pay for and get an amendment on your passport prior to it's expiration. You'll have to wait the five years to get a new name in a passport. You can apply 6 months prior to it's expiry. You will not be able to use the simplified version of the passport application either if you're going to change your name at that time.
