Hi, we have received our NOA1 recently and we are thinking about the next step.

My fiancé (USC) has just graduated and is looking for a job, so as of now he can not meet up the financial requirements, plus he has had no tax reports in the US for the past 2 years as he was living with me in France.

So we are in a situation where we need a co-sponsor. We have asked his parents but we feel like they will use it as a leverage on us later. A very good friend of ours offered to be my co-sponsor, would that be ok for the consulate in Paris, France? Plus this friend has only been a USC for the past year, would that have any consequences?

Thanks in advance!

In most cases yes. A co-sponsor must be a US citizen or legal permanent resident. SOME consulates do not accept co-sponsors or allow family members only. I do not think Paris is one of them but you can check the consulate website

Unfortunately the American embassy in Paris website does not provide this information. So if anybody who knows if Paris accepts non-relative co-sponsor or not is more than welcome to let me know

I have never read here that Paris restricts co-sponsors to family members. So, I doubt it. Such things get hashed over here pretty well. But your question is getting minutely specific and it may be difficult to get an exact answer here...you are asking for someone who was approved through Paris, with a non-family co-sponsor to answer. The field of applicants with such circumstance is getting pretty slim. You can always email the consulate and ask. For now, until you get that answer, I would be lining up that co-sponsor. I am about 99% sure you are fine.
