Hi guys!!

here's my story :

Initially applied for SSN on june 29, with my married name... August 15 , I recieved a letter from the local SS Administration, indicating no SS number could be given because no match was found on my married name. the letter suggested to re-apply using the name on my INS documents. We went to the office to apply again but was told we could not proceed b-coz my I-94 was expiring that very day Aug 17. so the question now is... can i re-apply once my EAD arrives or will i have to wait until i recieve my green card? this whole process is very frustrating. any thoughts, suggestions, advice would be grately appreciated. Thanks :)

Yes, you will be able to reapply with either your EAD or your green card - whichever arrives first.

Once your EAD arrives, take it along with your marriage certificate and national ID/passport to the SSN. I am guessing that your EAD is under your maiden name, so you need your marriage certificate as proof that your name was legally changed after entering the country. They will need to match your maiden information with your new married name. Best of luck :D

We met in October 2007 and our immigration journey started in July 2008 when we filed for the I-129F Fiance Visa petition.

You can apply with either your Green-card or EAD.

Either the EAD or GC is sufficient to apply for the SSN. Take your marriage certificate with you to show the same individual has both names. Good luck!

You were no longer eligible based on K-1 staus after you had been here 76 days. I suspect the office screwed up or dragged their feet verifing your status, but you now need an EAD card or I-551 stamp or card to be assigned a work authorized SSN.
