Just wondering

-Did your USA fiance travel with the beneficiary when entering the country on their (any) visa?

-Did the petitioner go through the immigration line for non-US people with you? or did they go through the US line and wait for you? What was the immigrations officers response to going through the non-US line?

-Personally did you want them to travel with you or meet you at the POE?

Just Wondering...

Thanks!

Karin came by herself - but it is up to you guys.

More often than not - the foreign fiancé/spouse can go through the US Citizen/US Resident Line (with their US Citizen spouse/fiancé, or on their own). Best advice is to ask an officer which line to go in and he/she will pretty much always direct you to the Citizen/Resident line.

My husband flew up to get me and we both crossed the border together. I was bringing my car with me (my belongings followed later with the movers) and so we drove it down together. At the POE, the CBP processed my visa (K-1) and car importation with him beside me and the officers were very pleasant. I appreciated my husband coming with me. It helped to share the pain of leaving and eased the burden of the transition.

There's no hard and fast rule that says you must go through one lane or the other (although I'm sure a minority of CBP agents may be bossy about it and send people back simply because they can).

When I came through Chicago O'Hare, I went through the USC/LPR line (on my own) simply because I was directed to by the agent organising people - she sent quite a few of us (mostly VWP passengers) over to the USC lanes because there was a backlog in the non-citizen lanes and the USC lanes were mostly empty. So, they are flexible to an extent.

I asked which line at Detroit and we were told to go through the visitors line together. Just ask someone when you get into the immigration area.

Detroit gets an A+ from me - Very organized and courteous.
