I was looking for information on google and stumbled upon this site. I'm happy to find that there are many others who share the same experiences(frustrations even) as I do. So hello everyone! =)

Quick info: Got married last January, filed February, got my EAD June, and got my SSN two weeks later. Interview is scheduled for Sept.

As soon as I got my SSN, I went to go apply for a California ID. It has been over six weeks since, and still nothing in the mail. So I decided to call them this morning and the lady I spoke to told me that it still needs to get verified with INS. She gave me a number to call and so I did. The person I spoke to next said that they are in fact waiting for INS to verify my documents and such, and that it may take up to 120 days. Anyone else have the same problem? The only reason I am worried is because I planned on getting my driver's license soon. If it's so much trouble getting an ID, what more a driver's license? I recently got my nursing license and being able to drive will help me a lot in landing a job.

On top of that, my husband and I are going to his home state in a week to meet his family for the first time. I was hoping to use my CA ID which I still don't have but I have been told that I should be able to use my Employment Authorization Card for identification purposes at the airport, so I am hoping that's true.

Thanks in advance!

As ID, your passport will be just fine at the airport, so long as you are on a domestic flight. The EAD will also help, if needed. As to applying for a driver's license, each state is different. But many will approve your driver's license application with the NOA1 showing you have applied for AOS. The term of the driver's license will be limited, but can be renewed easily when you get the green card.
