The Dems were out-maneuvered by the minority party which played for time to get their propaganda machine up and running. Now that it is up and running, the Dems can't get control of the debate and can't get their message out effectively. They failed. Some measure will pass but it won't be the measure that's needed.

didn't the dems have the opportunity to get their message out first?

guess it's the other guys fault the dems didn't deliver ....

Health care reform should not be on the Congressional Democrat's agenda? What should be on their agenda right now?

The most productive members of our society are being squeezed dry by high rates of taxation.

Helping them should be on the top of the agenda.

Bush's failed domestic policies like his huge tax cuts for the wealthy were why the Democrats regained control of the WH and both Houses.

No, Obama won because ACORN cheated.

To the contrary, the tax cuts made America happy.

Bruce Bartlett, a Republican under Reagan and HW Bush stated it nicely when he said:

I believe that political parties should do penance for their mistakes and just losing power is not enough. Part of that involves understanding why those mistakes were made and how to prevent them from happening again. Republicans, however, have done no penance. They just pretend that they did nothing wrong. But until they do penance they don't deserve any credibility and should be ignored until they do.

Bruce Bartlett is a union-card-waving **, a suspected convert to Islam and last time I checked, he don't even own no guns. So fuсk him.

Getting the bill through the Senate is not the issue. They have the 60 votes to prevent a fillibuster, and Reid is not beyond filling the tree to prevent any Republican amendments. The problem is still the House. The leadership bill won't come to the floor with a bill until they can whip enough votes. As it stands right now, the Democrats just don't have the votes to get it out of committee, and on the floor. House members that gave the Democrats the majority know they will lose theiir seats, if they vote for the bill in its current form, and they will lose the progressives, if they change the bill to appease the more conservative members.

And, if this deputy press secretary Bill Burton would quit coming on FOX to correct the record, the GOP won't have everything they need to muck up the works.

Where did I say it's the other guy's fault that the Dems did not deliver on health reform? It's their fault and their fault only. They have the majorities to act and they don't. They had the opportunity to lead the debate and set the tone and they failed. They chose instead to engage in this futile attempt at bi-partisanship - this was the biggest mistake they made. I said so many times over the past few months. No point in talking to the party that has only one goal - retain the status quo if for no other reason than to see Obama not deliver on this campaign pledge. The failure is solely on the Dems - no argument from me about that.

Fear is a more effective motivator than hope...but it does have it's limits which is why Obama won the election. This health care battle isn't over yet. The fear mongerers have thrown everything they've got to defeat any reform, now it's a matter of continuously pushing forward the hope that we can reform health care in this country.

David Axelrod is as politically savvy as Rove was for Bush. I believe that he knows what he's doing and what it'll take to pass a health care bill with this Congress.

But Obama had no clear health care proposal when this whole process started and he was sincerely open to all possible solutions. Even if it seemed futile to reach out to the Republicans for solutions, I think enough Americans, particularly the ones who are personally effected by lack of adequate insurance will eventually come around, overcome whatever unfounded fears they have about reform and be willing to let the Democrats steer this country in a different different direction than the previous 8 years. They may be skeptical and scared, but they have few options in front of them, and aren't ready to darling up to the GOP again for answers to their problems.

Bill, do you have a list of the 60 Senators who you think will vote 'yay' for a Reform Bill once it reaches the Senate? Because many Blue Dog Democrats have said they will not vote in favor of any bill that includes a public option.

Some blue dogs may vote for cloture and vote against the final bill. Depending on how many, that may work.

Let me ask you - if you were an adviser for the Democrats in the Senate, what would you tell them they should be doing (with the assumption that you are really on their side)?

1-quit the demonization of those opposed...(quit bumping fox new's ratings & pissing off independent & republicans)

2-read the bills in circulation. seperate what will & will not truthfully lower cost...(will not in the trash can)

3-drop taxpayer funded abortion out of the bill...(1/2 of the country is pro life)

4-throw in some tort reform...(insurance for covering lawsuits is one of the major issues causing premiums to rise)

5-put in-noone can be denied coverage for a pre existing condition...(a huge problem currently)

6-put in-all medical coverage can be carried & purchased across state lines.

7-put in-pharma can't charge 200-500% or even more in America than they do in other industrialized nations.

8-set up an assistance program for those that can not afford health insurance...not pay for it an assistance program.

9-set up another fund (6 month maximum eligibilty) to help people that have resently lost or change jobs.

10-maybe look at ending 'earned income credits' as a way to help fund #8....(those are the people that will qualify)

11-very clearly omit assistance for any & all illegal immigrants...(tax payers should not have to cover or assist them)

or

keep the same game plan - ram it thru - call Mayflower...your a$$ is moving in 2010-2012.

didn't mean to project towards you ... sorry.

agree it's the dems fault. would it have made a difference if they opened the ball first with a well structured and defined plan?
