MUMBAI (Reuters) - At least 135 people were killed and hundreds injured in seven bomb explosions on packed commuter trains and stations during rush hour on Tuesday in Mumbai, India's financial hub, officials said.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility. But suspicion turned to Muslim militants fighting New Delhi's rule in disputed Kashmir, who have been blamed for several bomb attacks in the country in the past.

The blasts occurred throughout Mumbai's western suburbs, which are linked to the downtown office and business areas mainly by the train network.

The Mumbai blasts came just hours after suspected Islamist militants killed seven people, six of them tourists, in a series of grenade attacks in Indian Kashmir's main city, Srinagar, police said, the most concerted targeting of civilians in months.

Kashmir has been split between India and Pakistan since shortly after the two countries gained independence from Britain in 1947, but both claim it in full.

Yeah my wife is worried too, her parents are supposed to be in Mumbai in a few days and now that may not happen if there are curfews...

It sounds like the bombs went off in the "local" trains (commuter trains). An attack on local trains would impact people who live and work in Mumbai more than others.

I remember while I was in India, they had the bomb scare on the trains, and Ryan's grandmother was about to make a trip back to Kolkata. That was a scary thought. I really wish all this would stop. Why can't we just get along!?!?!

Trains in India are getting to be very dangerous. In the cities you have to worry about Muslim bombs, in the subburbs you have to worry about Hindu mobs hunting for men without foreskin and in the rural areas you have to worry about Maoist rebels who just want to blow up train track and disappear back into the jungle.

Flying is really the only way to go these days.

The london bomb blasts were 7/7.

So don't travel on the 11th of any month or the 7th of any month and for good measure don't travel in month 7 (july) at all.

There actually have been cases where mobs have asked men to take their pants off so they could verify religion before making the kill-don't kill decision. Hindus don't circumsize, Muslims do. Like all generalizations, that one is not always true but people believe it.
