This site was linked in the off topic forum, but I thought someone would appreciate it.

As it says, it's all about the deals. The forums are a wealth of information. If you have time to look through it, it's amazing how families are living, spending next to nothing at the grocery store. I was drop-jawed at how little they spend and totally , complete with wide open mouth, when I looked at the pictures of their "stockpiles."

With separated families, immigration expenses, plane tickets, and the general downturn of the US economy, every little bit helps.

my grandmother and grandfather used to always tell me, every single time they saw me, SAVE YOUR MONEY

even if it is one dollar or five, you will need it someday and it will amount to much more.

I swear there has never been a time in my life where I could save

I hate that feeling

but how can you manage when you need every penny you make?

We all need every penny (or piester) we make. That's life.

To me anyway, saving doesn't necessarily mean sticking money in the bank and hoarding it (although it's good to have some handy), it's making the most of what you have to work with.

Now that I know I'm going home, my plan is to do exactly that. Granted, I've had a rather comfy and cushy life here but I've also learned some valuable lessons about life. I've seen poverty - abject poverty - and that taught me that having something, instead of nothing, is truly a blessing. My promise to myself is to learn to make the most of what I've been blessed with and never, NEVER take it for granted, even slightly, again.

I agree I certainly learned how to budget the smallest amount of money and live off of barely nothing, which sucks.

I get tired of counting every penny :bonk:

Amen, me too!

I love that site. It's really useful, though it took me awhile to get used to their writing format. It really helps you to save tons of money... our grocery bills are next to nothing now, alhamdulillah. :)
