I see they don't list the unemployment rates tho Somehow 2 cities in North Carolina made the top 30, and yet NC has one of the highest unemployment rates in the country, and it keeps rising as they close more and more factories.

Salaries may be high for those who have jobs, but for the thousands of folks out there lookin' and fighting for the 5 jobs that are left, its not so good

Interesting, Baltimore does have good job prospects and affordable housing but the crime problem has not improved within the last few years. Many of my friends and I lived there or in that area and most of them now have chosen to either move to the edges of the city or out of the city. The public schools are some of the worst in the state of Maryland.

Tucson is 42, PHx and Mesa rate higher. Wages are higher in PHX/Mesa, but so is the heat.

In Tucson we are still eating Sunshine rather than having high wages, although the cost of housing is going up.

Maybe it's time to move back to PA. I see Harrisburg did well. I used to live in the Harrisburg area.

Albuquerque came out at #98 on that list, but last month we were #1 in Forbes and #3 in Kiplinger's, so ...

Admittedly salaries here are low, but the cost of living is also really low. Housing prices here are about half of what they were in New Jersey.

Yeeeaahhhh.... those calculations end up pretty meaningless in my estimation. I'll gladly sacrifice half my salary to rent if it means public transport, cultural life, and people who know, for example, that Brazil speaks Portuguese, not Spanish. (Seeeeriously)

Not surprising, with Portland, the south of the state and the midcoast being horrendously expensive in terms of cost-of-living. Lewiston-Auburn is a grotty hole and north of Bangor you're talking about 'taytah-pickin' country.

It's still a nice place to live though.
