I have gotton so sick and tired of hearing from my husband, my country this and my country that. Please excuse me, you live in this country now, not that country. I am trying to do something that is right and it has to do with poor muslim people, and he wants everything to go to Morocco. He says, I know people...Well excuse me, I know people here too. Its so darn frustrating that everything always reverts back to his country! This coming from a man just talking about getting his citzenship in a year or two. Grrrrr

I don't know what to say but I remember every time I wanted to give money or something to a poor person on the street in Morocco, my husband would say no or they're not poor or something. Maybe they were taught something bad about the poor people in Morocco? so that's why they generalize to all poor people...

I can only speak for myself... I grew up in california..19 years. When i moved here to kentucky, everything was "in california this" and "well, in california that" or the classic "well, we always did_____" i still find myself saying it after 11 years here. I dont think it will change..its my home and i will always compare everything else to it.

"you fondle my trigger then you blame my gun"

Timeline: 13 month long journey from filing to visa in hand

If you were lucky and got an approval and reunion with your loved one rather quickly; Please refrain from telling people who waited 6+ months just to get out of a service center to "chill out" or to "stop whining" It's insensitive, and unecessary. Once you walk a mile in their shoes you will understand and be heard.

Thanks!

I do that too when I compare California to Morocco and sometimes wish the Moroccan citizens do something to better their country! I guess you can't change everything...

Sorry Turia, I totally misunderstood your post. He probably thinks Moroccans need the money more, but I agree with you. Give it to someone who is in dire need of help from the Ummah and that you can see the effect of your help-if that makes sense. It always touches me when we help our brothers and sisters in the community and they show their gratefulness.

I never thought about it like that but I guess when I did first move to Idaho after growing up in Texas most of my life I did say Texas this and Texas that a lot. I had a lot of Texas pride. After living in Idaho longer than Texas now I don't say that or compare it anymore. Especially after going back to Texas and living there for 6 months and seeing people who didn't leave pretty much stayed the same while I had changed. I also found I had no real ties to Texas anymore except for that I was born there, spent a period of my life there, and my Dad and younger siblings live there now but they are all growing up starting their own families. All my friends from High School grew distant because I wasn't around anymore. I don't consider it my home anymore but it is a part of my past. I don't consider Idaho my home either because I'm a transplant here but the majority of my friends and family are here and it's always a part of my present so I keep coming back.

After visiting Egypt off and on and spending some time there I became more familiar with it each time. A part of my life is there too with my big Egyptian extended family and my Husband currently living there. It's been my life for the past five years and you all have become a part of my life because of what we share in common. Anyone else found that they like to put lemon or lime in everything after coming back from there?

I dont have that issue with Adam referring to Egypt this or that, but I myself need to get out of the habit of Back Home in Georgia... but its hard.

As for the lemon or lime, limes make me sick like I want to throw up... lemons I have always loved and used. Great in a cup of water, great on finger nails to clean, great on mosquito bites!

Sofyan use to kinda be like that. He doesnt LOVE america, and misses his family terribly, but he knows that his family is here now and the life we are making for ourselves would never be possible in jordan. It seems only natural that your husband feels that way, but that can only go so far. Maybe he can go for a visit soon and remember why it was he chose to leave? It seems like the visits back always do good

 Tamara! The lime is really influence from living in Texas which is influenced from Mexico to put lime in everything. The lemon is influence from Egypt to put lemon in everything but their lemon can be yellow or green like lime. It's much smaller and both colors taste like lemon. They even make their lemon lime drinks like Sprite or 7Up with more lemon then lime.

I agree with Kelly from what I've read they get homesick really bad and need to go for a visit after 6 months here. Usually the visit after a few years here does help give them insights they couldn't have had otherwise without spending some time here. One recent thread I can recall is the one Amal wrote about her Hubby's visit back home.

I used to get the "we do it this way" in the kitchen but I promptly nipped that in the bud and now no one is allowed in my kitchen while I am cooking.

Has anyone ever watched Gilmore Girls? There's an episode where Sooki is letting Jackson cook dinner for her and she keeps peeking through the kitchen door, since he kicked her out of the kitchen. It drove her nuts to think he's not using the right bowl or the correct seasonings. That's how my husband was but now he's given up and all is well :)

I do though still get a bit of that in terms of raising my daughters. I think he's told me over 100 times how school in Cairo is segregated and how it's not normal for boys to be hanging out with girls. I always imagined that raising two teen girls would be tough but I think he's going to have a harder time than I am with it!!! I honestly think that if we had a daughter together he'd insist on moving back home once she hit puberty.

It is a difficult adjustment for our significant others to move here. Think of how you would feel if you moved there after breathing usa for your whole life and having such a major adaption. We cant expect them to forget their home. And a way that they deal with not forgetting is talking. When we marry our so's, we marry not only them but their whole way of life, and we cant expect them to look, talk and act like and american and forget theyre past. And when they come here and cross that border they are not automatically changed to americans. They will always be moroccans, inside and out and that will never change. When my so gets here he can turn the house upside down for all I care, redecorate, cook the way he wants... anything he wants as long as he feels at home. I want him to feel comfortable and feel as if he belongs here and feel as if he has a place. Sometimes we dont want to listen, but If we listen to each other we can learn from each other.

When in Egypt and Jordan I would always make remarks like...."well, in the US we can....or we have...." :P I used to make fun of the fact that fast food delivered to homes WTH??!?? I would talk about their plumbing, AC, refrigeration, transportation, etc.... Not on small trips but on trips I spent an extended amount of time i.e.: summer, etc and it drove my cousins and my hubby crazy. So now when my husband has said things like that, I pretty much agree w/ him on what he misses and then we start talking about "imagine not having...." etc. It's really not much of an issue now.

Last time we talked about it he said I have nothing to go back to except to visit family. My life and family are here now and thats the truth. That does not mean he doesn't want to go back and visit or for us to have a home there one day but not without our entire family.
