Hi Everyone,

My wife's paperwork for AOS was received and we got a receipt and an A# from the USCIS. Can she use that receipt to apply for a Social Security Number? If she can, then what other materials does she need to bring to apply for one?

A received AOS application does not grant work authorization. You will need to apply for and receive an Employment Authorization Document (EAD) to apply for a SSN

Once a foreign spouse/fiance arrives in the U.S., it takes 2 weeks for them to show up in the SAVE system at the SSA office.

Two weeka after her arrival, she can apply for her SSN with her passport, birth certificate, and certified marriage certificate.

How does this answer the OP's question? The OP doesn't even indicate that they are K1 and this response only applies to K1 within the first 76 days. The question they asked was about applying for SSN based on an AOS receipt...not based on a K1 entry status.

My wife and i got married when she arrived US thru a B1/B2 visa (I am a citizen).. then we filed all the paper work for AOS and also a work permit as well...

we have receipts from USCIS on all these paperwork... so i guess we have to work till her work permit to arrive before applying for a Social Security Number?
