I don't see why this is surprising - people almost always move to the right whenever hard times hit (especially if some group can be found to pin the blame on).

You've outdone yourself in nonsense as Obama won the election during an economic recession. The people didn't turn to the right.

It's more likely the people turn to the alternative during hard times and now it's anyone but Obama.

For God's sake Dave - are you simply unable to comprehend simple truths or do you just like argue for the sake of it?

Ask yourself what the country was like politically in the months after 9/11 and why today, people are shunning central government

ALC is right, People turned left to elect Obama. There have always been more conservatives than liberals in the US. The libs are just pushier and louder than everyone else.

The election of Obama had a lot to do with the deep unpopularity of President Bush and the incumbent Republican party. Ronald Reagan couldn't have won the 2008 election from that side, let alone John McCain.

I wasn't in the U.S. until a year after 9/11. By the time I got back, I saw a lot cheap, faded flags so I can't speak to the national sentiment at the time.

I don't see any connection between whatever was going on at that time and people resisting on Obama's healthcare plan. Americans usually want privacy, low taxes and national defense. . . and government services for free. Been that way for a couple of centuries and isn't something that suddenly emerged during Bush's tenture.
