I would bet that a self-identified 'moderate' in Massachusetts looks very different than a self-identified 'moderate' in Texas.

Massachusetts moderate : Supports contraception education for 13 year olds

Texas moderate : Supports restricting gun racks in autos to hold only 2 rifles.

What a pointless poll though. Everyone knows that identification with liberalism is admitting to sleeping with the devil - who does that?

I would like to see the 'identifiers', that would be interesting ;)

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Looks like my poll here on VJ. Liberals more often than not mislabel themselves as moderates. since they don't like the "L" word.

However, most Republican males do.

someone has to appreciate the L's

You're right. Self identification is the important part of this poll. Most people tend to paint the center close to where they are standing when it comes to self identification. You really need to look at polls of what people support. Over 70% support a public option in healthcare reform. Most conservatives would have to interpret that as a whole heck of a lot of liberals, but that isn't how all those people self-identify. Self identifying polls can only be used to conclude how people self identify and don't tell you anything beyond that.

Beyond that, it is pretty blatantly dishonest to just exclude the moderates and pretend that the "net" number is somehow meaningful. It's merely a device that does what the conservatives try to do over and over...jimmy the numbers to pretend the US is an overwhelmingly conservative nation.

I don't see why this is surprising - people almost always move to the right whenever hard times hit (especially if some group can be found to pin the blame on).

You've outdone yourself in nonsense as Obama won the election during an economic recession. The people didn't turn to the right.

It's more likely the people turn to the alternative during hard times and now it's anyone but Obama.

For God's sake Dave - are you simply unable to comprehend simple truths or do you just like argue for the sake of it?

Ask yourself what the country was like politically in the months after 9/11 and why today, people are shunning central government

People are just starting to see what Obama looks like in real life.

ALC is right, People turned left to elect Obama. There have always been more conservatives than liberals in the US. The libs are just pushier and louder than everyone else.
