Hopefully my husband will become a US Citizen sometime before Christmas and I am hoping to throw him a surprise party after his oath ceremony. I want to celebrate not only the end to a very long journey but also thank him for going through all of it so that we could be together.

I was thinking a cake and inviting friends and family....Does anyone have any ideas about things we could do? Maybe some of you have already been to a celebration like this.

Thanks!

I think this is a fun idea! I really hope to have a similar party this year!!

Depending on when he gets his citizenship, it might be fun to have reverse of 'Christmas in July' and have a '4th July at Christmastime' party instead :P

I think it would be nice to have a cake with both flags on... depending on the mixture of your friends' backgrounds, perhaps you could ask them to bring a dish that represents something of their heritage (the state or country they are from?)....

Most importantly have fun, and remember how wonderful it is that we have the opportunity to live in this great country with the person that you love (F)

What a lovely idea!

hehehe, you could make a game of asking the citizenship questions for the guests to answer and see how everyone else does:).

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

See if you can find some of those very tiny made in China flags they give you at the oath ceremony, and have a flag waving contest. Hardware store in town stuck a flag five times that size in everyone's yard in town for the 4th. I got a five by seven foot all sewn heavy cotton flag Made in the USA that was flown over the US Capitol building in her honor for her USC through my senators office, makes a very touching gift.

My gosh, tomorrow is the first anniversary of my wife's USC, should we celebrate that? But she is just like everyone else now, works and pays taxes.

He got his interview date for September 18th! So maybe it will be even sooner than December.

Thanks everyone for the ideas/well wishes. I can use all of them!

Good luck to everyone.

Oh wow, I have RN Pre-entrance exam on that day. Good luck to you!!
