Hi Guys,

My Fiance is leaving tonight to come to the U.S. and he has his Birth Certificate Translated by a company in his town, but he went to Cairo and spent 8 hours and couldn't get it stamp by the Ministry. He wants to leave it and let his mother do it then mail it in 2 weeks, but i'm scared it will get lost as nothing I have sent him ever made it to him. We will need his Birth Cert. to get married and if it's lost we got a problem.

Does the Birth Cert. need to be stamped by the ministry for it to be legal in the U.S. or does the stamp by the company that translated it, be good enough? If the stamp of the company which translated it is good enough, i'm telling him to bring it with him.

Thanks,

Jolie

Looking at my husband's now. His is stamped EXACTLY like this "(man's name) Advocate before the supreme court Official Translator & Notary". This is NOT the Ministry. It was good enough for the Embassy in Cairo.

Based on this, I would tell him to bring it with him.

* O.K. I will ask how the translators info is written and see what they put for their stamp/seal w/e. To be honest.. no one at a court house in Alabama, is going to know there is a Ministry in Egypt to even put a stamp on his. :( I think I will tell him to bring it as i'm nervous about his mother sending it later.

Thanks,

Jolie

just ask him to take one or two original Birth certificates with him to the US and there you can translate them at any authorized translation offices .

it's not a big problem at all , so take it easy :)

I don't know if the birth paper needs to have a government stamp on it. Ahmed had his translated by Nafoury and Nahas Law Firm & Translators in Garden City which deals with the U.S. Embassy directly. After translating it they brought it over to the U.S. embassy to have it "certified" there.

Looks like people have done it different ways. God-willing the translation he has is suffice since it's already 10pm in Cairo and he should be on his way to you. Anyhow best wishes and congrats that your man will soon be with you!

* He hasn't left his home yet which is a couple hours drive to cairo. I havent even spoken with him yet to see how the translation is stamped or signed. He left me a message that he couldnt get it done his mom would that's all the info I have right now.

I do know he got the same place to translate his birth cert. that translated his Army papers/Police paper, then he went and had them stamped and the Embassy had no problems with them.

Just wondering if the VISA he obtained on passport has his date of birth. I think even that should be enough.

That's who we used too, for translating our marriage certificate. I think they charged about 50LE per page. Ended up being around 300LE.

So, can you only get the birth certificate translated at the Ministry of Health? I asked Ahmed about it a while ago and he had no idea what I was talking about, and said that no way would an Egyptian authority translate something into English. maybe i need to ask him again.

** I'm not sure if it does or not, but the Visa has his picture on it and it's inside his passport which has his birthdate on it. I don't see how you could ask for more, but some places are difficult to deal with.

I had read somewhere when filling out the I-130 application that if I had any paper work that needed to be translated into English that I should get it done by someone who was bilingual and have it notarized here. I would think that if you needed to do it here it would be the same thing.

Amy he is wrong the ministry of justice has a translation office in Abdeen...Right next to it is the ministry of health that also has a translation dept. We saved a load of money doing the marriage police and birth certificates there!!! Actually if you go to the American Embassy in Cairo website and get their list of translators they are the first people listed!!! They also did a pretty good job!! It was 12 le for the bc, 40 for the marriage certificate, and 20 for the police record!!!
