Nah, they'd rather jerk off over the size/shape/caliber of their weapon than the implications to society of owning them - of course, they make society a much better place and demanding respect via one's gun is maturity.

What's funny to me is, that anyone seriously believes in this 'well armed militia' malarkey. Soldiers not only have better weapons, they are well trained and organized and the POTUS/government only needs to convince the army that those who appose them are terrorists and that's that.

Not only that, but this is only a necessary resort of electoral rights are suppressed...'aint happening, so it's just an excuse to have 'man toys' at the expense of the greater societal good. Fabulous baby ;)

I can't imagine Uncle Joe and his collection of handguns would do so well against a blackhawk helicopter full of army types.

What is a "well-regulated militia" when its at home anyway - and who does the regulating?

Well, as the rational goes (so to speak), a well armed populace is all that keeps china from invading this country

I understand the fear, that there is always a danger in giving power to a governmental body because of the possibility that the government body could use it's might to suppress individual freedom - in reality though, there is no effective way to do that with arms - it's much more about the willingness of the people to engage in democracy than having a gun. If people would learn that their electoral rights are far more important than their gun rights and properly exercise them - demand a non profit media for example - they would be far safer than with a hand gun and a few rounds of ammo.

Edited to add - I don't envisage all media being non profit, just one non profit arm on TV with a lot of political coverage. A resource for the people.

Who gives a **.

I do. People can roll their eyes all they want but I will question the goverment be it republicans or democrats. I expect them to stay within the bounds of the costitution. Period.

Seems more people would want the same instead of being sheep.

The Constitution gives you the right to bear arms. It doesn't say what kind.

The FDA can limit what you eat and what drugs you take. DHS says who can live in this country and who cannot. Your DMV tells you what kind of vehicle is street legal and what kind is not.

I can't wrap my head around the logic that if it is manufactured and it has a trigger, it's constitutionally protected.

I feel the goverment has infringed into peoples lifes to much already. They just keep taking. As you stated above.

So a question for you. At what point will you as a "new age progressive" say enough is enough to the goverment? What will have to happen for you to say stop and to look at what is happening?

Im trying to find your logic.

I'm not sure anything I said above could be construed as 'taking' from us. So that's where my logic is.

We already have state-run media in the USA - and last I heard they weren't making a profit either because no one wants to read/watch their ####### kissing of Obama.

State run? What are you talking about? I am talking about the population demanding a media arm that is run without political bias with strong investigative journalism with less frivolous opinion and more facts. It's got nothing to do with ####### kissing any POTUS and more to do with arming the population with facts, not hand guns.

It'll do you a site more good, that's for sure. There is nothing worse than political apathy, nothing worse at all. You only have to look at the morons that got elected as UK MEP's to understand that. The problems in the UK have nothing to do with a lack of information though, there is a lot that leads to political apathy, but that is the single biggest danger that any population faces in terms of worrying about fascism in this day and age.

I posted an excerpt from an article about Obama allowing licensed firearms in national parks & it was completely ignored. Most of you would rather trade baseless rhetoric back & forth than actually discuss the facts.

and people are b!tching about this as obama is making a tour of the national parks during peak tourist season.

Well that proves the point I've made many times... no matter what Obama does he is criticized for it. Also like I've said I don't have a problem with people disagreeing with the POTUS (I disagreed with the Bush administration consistently) but what I find irritating is the mindless rhetoric and/or bashing Obama for what he might do (with little or no evidence to substantiate the fear). This topic illustrates this baseless fear very well. Obama has bigger fish to fry & even if he wanted to ban the sale of assault rifles (I've seen zero basis for this fear, so I am speaking hypothetically) he wouldn't get around to this issue for a while.

IMO Obama's priorities should be (in order):

1. The Economy

2. Foreign Policy/National Defense

3. The Environment

4. Healthcare

Gun control (or lack thereof) wouldn't even crack the top 10 list.

with the entourage that accompanies the potus ... doesn't matter who the prez is ... wherever the potus goes there are huge interruptions for everyone within the area.

shouldn't, no, but who knows where it fits in on his list?

Firearm in question (in one of its variations)...(the 'older brother' to the M16/M4)

Not a big fan of so-called gun control but I do kind of have to wonder about just who is buying this type of weapon...

They are nice for deer hunting, rather than gutting that deer and having to haul it back, you just bring along zip lock bags and pick up the hamburger like stuff off the ground.

quite a bit of exaggeration there........

Gee, can't I have any fun with my comments, but no exaggeration that this kind of weapon is a close range meat chopper, but intended for humans rather than deer.
