we drove there, and taking the train depends on where you`re coming from. We stayed at Radisson (mostly because of the view :)) it`s right on East Jefferson, and then from there it`s 15 minutes just down East Jefferson and the office will be on the left side, you`ll see it.

There are hotels closer to the office, like Metro Lodge, 10501 E Jefferson Ave. It`s the closet one to the office, on the same street, so you`ll just have to go a couple of blocks.

You can always google Detroit hotel and see what area you`re interested in, print out some maps with directions and you`ll be fine.

I live in Detroit and know the area really well. If you take the train into downtown you'll come into the New Center area, which is a few miles north of Jefferson, where it sounds like your interview is. (I'm only in the K1 approval stage still, so I didn't know where the office is for the AOS interview.) Jefferson is right on the riverfront, with a view of Windsor, Canada across. Any of the hotels down there now are busy and safe, that riverfront area has been built up quite a bit and is nice. And yes, you can get a cab from the Amtrak station down to Jefferson for less than $10 I would imagine.

If you have questions about specific hotels you find, or anything else, feel free to send me a message.

Good luck with this next big step! You're an inspiration to this Michigan girl trying to be patient in bringing her Brit guy to the D!! :)
