Don't worry about it, it happens to me all the time and I live here! :hehe: Really, people have used it both ways in the States.

Going to apply for my SSN today, and if all goes well, we'll be able to set the wedding day!

Things are going wonderfully here! Living with James is just like the last time I stayed for 6 months. We continue reading the Dark Elf Trilogy together here (go Drizzt!) but no more online games, unless when I wake up at 6am with nothing to do :)

As for how I'm getting along with the new place... the metric system is still mocking me, since I don't understand it at all. Why US had to pick such a complicated one? The squirrels still fascinate me and I sit outside some times just watching them and hoping one will fall from the tree to my lap (yeah sure), and the cold weather is such a blessed relief from the tropical summer I was having in Brazil! Though... the weather got better down there once I left, and my friends say it's all my fault... awww they so don't miss me  But of course, my skin is screaming about the cold weather, it dries and hurts me, so I always have to be putting creams on, so there goes the tip if you coming from humid weather to try weather: put those creams on right away, don't wait like I did to get all hurty.

Hey Carolina - when you go to the store next, grab some in-shower rinse-off lotion if you haven't already gotten some. (I usually use this shea butter one by Oil of Olay, but if I can't find it, I'll buy whatever.) It always makes a huge difference in the winter (or when I come back from Brazil), and I find it works better than using lotions at other times (though in the winter, I tend to do that too).

Yeah, the customary system in the U.S. for measurements is AWFUL!! Thank goodness we use metric in the hospital and academics!

lol...you do *not* want the squirrels to fall into your lap! They will bite and scratch you! They are so darned cute though :)

Thank you for the lotion tip! Will try that :)

James told me the same thing about the squirrels... so ok, I will not try to touch one. Or a bear. Or a skunk. The animals here are too cute and dangerous...

This may sound awful or crazy, but I bought a huge bottle of safflower oil at the grocery store (1.5 pt, or 709 ml.) and use it after I shower. No chemicals, and it is fairly light and soaks into the skin quickly unless you use way too much. Not as heavy as olive oil or other vegetable oils.

I have trouble with a lot of commercial lotions, as they tend to cause me to have bad skin reactions. The safflower oil works great for me, and a 3 or 4 dollar bottle lasts a very long time.

Haha...plus they probably have all kinds of diseases and you'd have to get a rabies shot, ugh, which is like 3 gigantic needles into your belly. Not to uh, scare you or anything ;)

Don't they have cute tropical birds in Brasil?

Oh no I hate shots!! Screw you cute mamals! I'm out of the backyard trying to feed you!

So, since I am only 23 years old (24 in 9 days, send in the gifts people) I had to take the HPV shot for the K-1 medical. It's so rare someone takes it due to the cost of it in Brazil (R$400,00, around $200 dollars) that the nurse asked me very curious how it felt, which is a stinging kinda burning pain one. Well, I always let the nurses know I hate needles so they are all nice and distract me

But just in case anyone else wonders about it, it does not hurt much at all, and it has no side effects. On both times I took it and went to do some kind of grocery shopping right after with my mother. Just need to find where to take the last and 3rd shot now, but I already know where to ask, just waiting August come closer.

As for the cute animals in Brazil, you know it right: the birds are what we can find inside the cities and towns. There are no cute mamals at all inside the cities, just some pretty colorful birds depending on the area you live. I used to have green "humming birds (sp?)" on my backyard, and many more others that were not as pretty, but yet pleasant to see around. I mostly had bugs inside the house, and spiders, and those little tiny lizards that eat insects. Sometimes a rogue rat would show up, and roaches (sp?) because we were close to downtown, but thats mostly all of it.

Sorry I am so offtopic and talky!

BUT, yesterday I went to the SSA office, to apply for my SSN. Did everything, and the teller did not want to give it to me because I don't have work authorization. Then I showed her the document they reccomend and have here in the VJ guides, and she finished my application... kinda. Immigration still don't have my data on their system, so my application is now on "standby" and if nothing comes up in 4 weeks, I need to contact immigration. So... just need to wait for now.
