One way tickets to the US?

Ahmed's trying to get a ticket to come back with us this September, but when he went to the Air France counter to ask about buying a ticket, they told him that since he's Egyptian he's not allowed to enter the US without a roundtrip ticket. Of course, he didn't tell the agent what kind of visa he has, or that he is immigrating, not visiting. :bonk: :bonk: Did your partners enter with a one way or a round trip ticket? I know at least one person who's entered on a one-way, but it was a few years ago, not sure if things have changed since then or not. I tried calling Air France, they said they didn't know. I'm scouring google now, but thought I'd ask here too.

One-way or R/Trip is fine - of course if you call and don't say which visa you have, they're going to tell you you're not allowed (to do a one-way). Has nothing to do with being Egyptian either - same would be said to any one (even VWP countries). Airlines will not sell a one-way ticket unless you do have the proper visa (they will verify the visa prior to boarding/checking in).

People often buy a R/Trip ticket (and never end up using the return) because more often than not, it is cheaper than a One Way but that is the only reason they do so (not because they're required to).

Thanks :) Yeah, oddly enough the one-way is less expensive than the RT this time. That's good, though! I will send him back tomorrow to ask again. :)

Return tickets are more than often cheaper than one-way tickets. You can always buy one way tickets online if the agents refuse to sell them to you but you'll find they are a lot more expensive.

My husband will be flying with Air France too! as it is not only the cheapest but it is a direct flight from Paris to San Francisco. He is going to buy a round trip ticket because it is WAY cheaper.

John flied on Air France too when coming to and returning from Cairo.. They were the best prices we found at that time.. The flight to Cairo was very long and tiring almost 28 hours and he had two stops and he even had to take a bus to another airport in France. He told me if I were him, I'd have been lost an I agree! :D We're thinking of different Airlines at that time he comes to Cairo to attend the interview with me and I hopefully fly back with him, but if Air France has the best ticket prices we'll probably go for it...

My understanding Amy is that a K3 visa is a non-immigrant visa, therefore he will have to purchase a R/T ticket.

We had a CR1 which is an immigrant visa, therefore allowing my husband to purchase a one way ticket.

Well, it's confusing, because the embassy processes it as an immigrant visa. is there some way to tell the difference on the actual visa itself? does the CR1 visa have a expiration date on it like the k3 does?

The embassy doesn't process it as an immigrant visa. It is processed as a non-immigrant visa. He will have to complete the visa process once stateside with the AOS.

The CR1 is a immigrant visa good for 2 yrs. Then we do a Removal of Conditions for his 10 yr greencard.

In their words, they process it as an immigrant visa. when you interview, you go through the immigrant visa line. i contacted them once to ask some questions about answers needed for forms, and they said they were irrelevant because the application was for an immigrant visa, K-3s are processed in the immigrant visa unit, etc.

I did a VJ search, and quite a few K-1 visa holders entered the US (from non-MENA countries) with a one-way ticket. Any one here have that experience?

my own, and several other people's fiances from this forum came to the us on one way tickets, but this was 2 years ago. i don't know if anything has changed since then or not. my husband bought his ticket from lufthansa, and it was never an issue. no one asked him any questions about it.

I dont know much about getting cheaper tickets from France, if you would like I can find that out for you from my friend who travels often from Paris-NY. But this is just an advice to buy a round OPEN ticket. OPEN tickets are valid for 6 months I hear, and can be extended as well for a small fee. One of my friend always purchases a round ticket from his country for he feels it is cheaper this way. His return date is open and hence he is flexible when to return for a visit travel to his (ex-)country.

Hope this helps someway in your finances. Good luck and congratulations.

One way ticket is fine .but some airlines will say you can not get one way ticket ''cause in fact they want to sell you round trip ticket '' .

most or all of the guys here from Egypt they got one way ticket when they traveled to USA and they had no problem .Inshaallah i will get one way ticket .''I'm a K1 ''

Let me ask you why air France ??? you can use Egyptair or delta they have non-stop flight from Cairo to New York and i think thats easier and maybe cheaper '' cause i guess air France is kinda expensive ''

We filed K3 and my husband flew in to Chicago on a O/W ticket through Alitalia. We had no problems. I purchased the ticket online, he printed his confirmation and took it to the counter in Cairo and got his boarding passes.
