Renew Can. passport from US

Hellow everybody, I hope all are doing great! For obvious reasons I am back for the next step, Removing Conditions...at the end of this year and noticed I have to renew my passport...

Anybody had the experience of renewing it from the US? does it take longer than doing it from Canada? I didn't begin to search for any info yet i have been more than busy with my new life in the fascinating US...so this is the first step of begining to organize all the paperwork...thanks in advance and best of luck to all!!

I renewed my passport from the US a few years ago - it took about 2 weeks in total including couriering it to Quebec and getting it back. It took longer to get the necessary Guarantor done than to get the actual passport. The biggest challenge from the US is getting the photographs correct - US standards are a different size and they are not nearly as particular about the quality of the photograph so print out a copy of the Canadian standards and bring a ruler to where you get the pictures taken. Some suppliers do have software that will allow them to pre-set for specific non-US standards but most don't. It may have to be 'custom' work rather than the quick in and out US passport photos are. I used Wolfe's Cameras and they were able to use their Kodak processing machine, turn the image sideways to get the correct head to chin size and then we custom cut the overall size to fit Canadian dimensions.

While completing the Simplified form a question aroused i n my mind, I read somewhere I had to prevent the Can. gvt I am a non resident canadian citizen...should I do that 1st or it doesn't matter...would I be penalized? obvously, I am not good with any paperwork...thanks.

i think u can just proove with your birth certificate or your citizen ship card but im not sure

I remember that I included a photocopy of my green card in with my application to show that I was legally resident in the US.

I renewed my passport this year in May. I was able to use the simplified form and only had to send them my old passport and pictures. Turn around time for me was one week. Thats the fastest I've had it done. Back in 2004 I applied for a passport for the first time and that took nearly 3 weeks to get back.

I didn't use the simplified form as I was applying for a name change (my new married last name) at the same time as my new passport. Took about a week after they received the form for them to get me my new one. They sent it via courier which was nice and I didn't pay for expedite or anything. I did have my first application sent back unprocessed because they didn't like my passport photos. That seems to be a big reason for refusing your application, so make sure they are the correct size for Canada, AND that there are no shadows.
