Hello all.

We have an appointment scheduled on the 1st of september. I wondered if anyone who filed DCF has ever arrived at the appointment and had a document missing such as a tax transcript(s).

Could my wife be denied for missing a document?

Is it possible that they ask us to send it in when we receive it?

Could they make us do the whole medical/interview process over only after we have it in hand?

Any advice would be helpful.

Your I-864 will likely be rejected until you can provide at least a copy of your 2008 tax return or tax transcripts. I'm guessing they will issue her visa when you provide a copy of your tax returns.

People do show up at the interview without all documents. Generally, if the person is approved but just needs to submit something, they will keep the person's passport and give you a slip indicating what information needs to be submitted.

Your timeline says your interview is Sept 1st, you have plenty of time to get what you need.

It is my understanding that you don't need both, copies of your tax returns and tax return transcripts, one of two should be sufficient. But you can call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 to request your transcripts, if you insist and tell them that you have an immigration related interview, they will fax you the transcripts as long as you're standing by the fax machine. If you are overseas, you can set up a service such as efax, send2fax on the internet they will issue you a local US number, and receive them via email as a pdf attachment.

Why cause delays and an issue when you don't have to.

Good luck.

Hi, thanks for the replies.. The issue is that I actually only recently filed (late) and therefore can not have my transcript in time.. i filed about a month ago and it would be really just in the nick of time if they can get the filing done.. im not too hopeful they will.. but anyways, Im sure that within a couple weeks after the interview we will have transcripts and it wont be a problem to send it their way afterwards..

thanks again! i just wanted to make sure people werent actually denied for such a small part of the process

Did you make a copy of the returns? If you did, the copy should be sufficient.

We went for DCF and provided just a copy of our returns, but we were totally fine.

Bring copies of your tax return with current proof of income.

Your transcripts may be available just before your interview, check back with the IRS as late as 8/31/09.

Your ability to prove that your spouse will not be a public charge is an important part of the approval process. Providing what is requested and proving you have a legitimate relationship is hard enough as it is. I have to ask, why walk into an interview knowing you don't have all the requirements ready? There are thousands of posts here of disappointments with the immigration process, don't expose yourself to one needlessly.

p.s. In the future consider filing electronically if you can, I've seen transcripts available rather quickly after using e-file.

Hey there, jumping in on this question here. Hope that is ok.

What are tax return transcripts?

We have filled out my sponsor document/tax/proof of income and my sister's to the best of our ability. If something is not right would they ask us to fax the missing documents, or would my husband have to return to the embassy (6 hours away) again? I guess we will find out on Tuesday! Wish us luck.

Yes, best case scenario is that the IRS will my have my 2008 data entered by the end of the month, then we'll be in great shape.. The thing is I filed these tax returns late since I have been living overseas for some time and am a legal resident of a foreign country, I didnt realize I was still obligated to be in contact with IRS every year.. Regardless, when you file late, you cannot file electronically and must file by mail. And to the question about why go into an interview without all the documents ready, .. well,, its kind of a long story, but we are not using our income as proof that my wife will not be a burden on society, we are using our assets and feel that the tax transcript should be something secondary in the process. The income was foreign earned and as far as the IRS is concerned I make 0 taxable income.

THe other thing is my wife is pregnant and due next month and I will be moving back to the US fairly soon to start a job. We did not want to have an appointment after the kid was born and after I left the country. So yeah, as with most cases, there are a lot of personal things to consider when making these decisions and sometimes they arent not as black and white as things ought to be.
