Alaskan Cruise???

Hey Everyone... I'm just starting this whole process and I had a quick question....

When (or should I say if?) I receive my K-1 Visa would it be possible for me to take my lovely lady on a honeymoon that includes an Alaskan cruise?? We would leave from an American port of call (most likely Seattle) and I would make sure we'd book on a cruise that ended in Seattle... the only problem that I foresee is that all the cruises I have looked at make a stop in Vancouver or Victoria Canada.... Seeing as I would not have the authority to leave the country during my initial time in the US will this be a problem, even if I stay on board the ship when in Canada??

If anyone has any idea or if you need more information please let me know!!!

Thanks in advance!!

(As well thanks for everything you users have posted on here!!! What a relief to find a website that is so helpful!! and its because of users that post their experiences!! Thanks again!!)

Yes, it would be a problem. The ship will leave US waters and enter a foreign country by going to Vancouver or elsewhere in Canada. That means you have left the US so even if you don't leave the ship you will run into problems. You can wait until after you file your AOS and get your AP (advance parole) and that way you wouldn't have a problem. The other thing to be looking at is when you go on your honeymoon - depending on the time of year you might want to choose another adventure:).

I was also wondering about a cruise, not for our honeymoon but because my fiance should be moving here and activating his K1 Visa in December and his family is taking a cruise out of Florida to the Bahamas around that same time. I wasn't sure if he could go with them or if he had to wait for AP.

Again, there is a problem with a Bahamian cruise as well - you will probably be leaving US waters and visiting the Bahamas which means he would have left US territory. It is best to wait until he has his AP. When I went on a cruise from Florida to the Bahamas a number of years ago they did the passport processing for Bahamian immigration on board the cruise ship before we arrived.

What about a Hawaiian cruise?

That's what I'm planning to do.

I mean, since there's no where to get off in between the Cali area and Hawaii, there shouldn't be any problem.

And another member did it, so it seems to be fine.

Hawaiian Cruises usually leave from Hawaii and then sail around the islands. It's not really typical to leave from California. That's what makes them okay compared to other cruises. If you did one that left from California, you would be entering international waters so that would be a no-no. The main part is to find out if you go through immigration at the end of your trip. If you do, then the cruise is not suitable for K1s!

Every cruise requires everyone on board to go through US customs when they exit the ship if the ship had entered international waters or any international countries.

Yeah that would work... its just Hawaii is a lot more money compared to Alaska.... and with the thought of being unable to work until I get my EAD I dont really want to break the bank... so its finding the balance of still having a great honeymoon but not spending a ton of money....

Well that sucks, I didn't know that.

I dont want to spend extra money flying to Hawaii.

Guess I'll wait till I get a green card.
