I am an American now!!

I am an American now. I had my ceremony thi s morning and all went well. It was a wonderful moment.

We were about 120 people attending from all over the world, some very old and others not so old.

While we were waiting, they played some songs from the Eagles, Bruce Springsteen etc...Everybody was relaxed and in a good mood. They opened the ceremony with a video, Faces of America, representing the diversity of the US population. Later, the director of the US immigration office came and gave a speech explaining the responsibilities coming with the citizenship and finally administered the Oath.

Now that we were all citizens, they showed a video of Pres. Obama welcoming us as "fellow Americans" which I found to be pretty emotional and yes Tom you are right concluded with video of US sights and sounds over "I am a proud American" from Lee Greenwood. (That last part was really cheesy)

Anyhow overall the USCIS did a great job with this ceremony.

Thank you again for the support, my immigration journey is over. Good luck to all of the ones still waiting.

wow,,,,! congratulations... :thumbs::dance:

Congrats! did you apply for a DUAL citizenship?

You can NOT apply for DUAL citizenship. This concept does not exist. What happens with your former country depends of its own local laws.

Yes ,the dual citizenship exists, in fact I am already a DUAL CITIZEN last August 14. When you took oath ceremony and became American citizen you automatically lost your original citizen, and if you don't want to lost it, you have to apply for DUAL CITIZEN to remain your original citizenship.

Perhaps to some other country dual citizenship is NOT allowed

A confusing subject to say the least, I am third generation natural born USC, but my original country where my grandfather is from, Italy, wants me back. Wife is natural born in Colombia, a bit touchy about that due to the bad reputation made by the drug dealers there, but really only a small handful, lot's of great people in Colombia, but they want her back and will give her a passport anytime she wants one. Also a naturalized citizen of Venezuela, own property there, and is paying taxes, so she is okay there as well, then also a USC.

I never inquired about gaining citizenship in either Venezuela nor Colombia, the latter would be my choice, but understand it would have been a lot easier than bringing my wife here. We have no intentions of leaving the USA, but is nice to know, we have other countries to go to and are even welcomed.
